Shellborn

Shellborn are a sturdy, beetle-like race known for their unshakable resolve, armored bodies, and deep reverence for legacy and tradition. Born from ancient insectoid lineages tied to the earth, Shellborn embody endurance, discipline, and quiet strength. Though often slow to trust or act, once they commit to a cause or bond, they are unwavering and unbreakable.
Shellborn are broad and stocky, with thick chitinous shells that vary in color from deep emerald and obsidian black to rich bronze and cobalt. Their heads often feature small horns, ridges, or hardened crests, and their multifaceted eyes shimmer with a stoic glow. Many have dense plating across their shoulders and backs, and some bear wing-casings—though most Shellborn are flightless, favoring brute strength and stability over mobility.
They build their homes underground or into mountainsides, creating vast halls and fortified chambers reminiscent of insect hives crossed with ancient temples. Their culture values honor, memory, and craftsmanship; Shellborn pass down carvings, shell-etchings, and ceremonial armor to preserve their ancestry. While not naturally magical, many Shellborn develop protective enchantments or earth-based rituals through slow, careful study.
Despite their intimidating appearance and quiet demeanor, Shellborn are deeply loyal, often forming small, tightly bonded groups called “clutches.” They are slow to anger but terrifying in their fury, defending allies and home with unmatched resilience.
