Seropni (Seer-op-oni)

Basic Information

Anatomy

A standard seropni specimen, not accounting for disability or alteration, will be vaguely anthropoid and quadrupedal. They have one head with one large, triangular, rotating ear on either side.   They have one wing on each side of a loosely cylindrical ribcage, each with four 'fingers' and a thin uropatagium stretched between them. Each wing has two non-opposable 'thumbs'. Their fingers each have three joints, with the 'thumbs' ending with a short, curved claw connected to the distal phalanges. They have two plantigrade legs, each with feet that have four toes. They have short, prehensile tails.

Genetics and Reproduction

Despite being mammalian, seropni reproduce sexually via approximately 88 days (11 universal months) of oviparous gestational time. Their typical rate of reproduction is one to three hatchlings per one universal year, with one universal year of incubation time. Clutches larger than three are common, occurring at approx. one in every 100 clutches and larger groups becoming less likely with each egg.   Seropni bury their eggs in sandstone, shading them with their bodies. They raise their eggs in pairs, similar to the behavior of Haliaeetus leucocephalus, with the parents taking shifts of retrieving food and sheltering the eggs. It's unclear why they nest exclusivly on the surfase and seropni do not seem to know either. A common theory on this behavior is the eggs' need for access to Orange Chroma during their gestational time, but there's no viable way to test this humanely.

Growth Rate & Stages

Seropni do not have distict life stages but rather physically mature quickly over the course of five years. Their eggs are about 120cm long and 80cm wide, weighing about 3.71kgs, with shells that are cream colored with brown speckles. The shell is smooth and hard.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Seropni are obligate carnivores, with the only exception being ambrosia cactus, which they consume for hydration. They primarily prey on small mammalas and reptiles, but are occasionally known to scavenge larger cadavers.

Behaviour

Seropni are apex predators within their environment, and are known to socialize easily with other sapient species. They are cautious of unfamilar enviornments, but eagerly social even with unknown species.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Seropni have long, thin snouts with two forward facing eyes, one round nose, and a single mouth with jowls. Their jaws are strong enough to break and grind bone. They have 40 teeth, with 12 incisors, 4 canines, and 18 cheek teeth.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Seropni live in cool, dark burrows beneath the deserts and cliffsides of Ragasha, Polora, Astridium, and western Mirage. They are quite manuverable for their size.

Average Intelligence

Seropni are socially intelligent enough to communicate and collaborate with one other as well as other sapient species, but also frequently crash into each other, and are incapable of reading beyond basic symbol interpretation.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Seropni have sharp olfactory and auditory senses, as well as a rudimentary form of echolocation, which they utilize to navigate the cave systems they live in and locate food.

Civilization and Culture

History

Seropni were first recorded as a species in 58777 of the First Era, but are likely older. The first recorded nest of seropni were and still are found in Stella's largest mineshaft under Ra's Perch.

Average Physique
Seropni have lean, aerodynamic muscular structures which are optimized for arial ambush attacks.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Seropni have coats ranging from dark grey to light yellow, with paler 'manes', and orange eyes. Their uropatagium is usually a bright, slightly luminecent orange, but some seropni are known to lose luminecence and coloration with age.
