Eponni

Basic Information

Anatomy

A standard eponni specimen, not accounting for disability or alteration, will be anthropoid and sexupedal. They have one head with one round, triangular ear on either side.   They have two arms on each side of a loosely cylindrical ribcage, each with hands that have four fingers and an opposable thumb. Their fingers each have three joints and end with a flat, keratin-based nail. They have two plantigrade legs, each with feet that have five toes. They have three prehensile tails.

Genetics and Reproduction

Eponni reproduce sexually via approximately 350 days (One universal year) of mammalian pregnancy. Their typical rate of reproduction is one baby per two universal years, with one year of gestational time and an advised year of recovery. Multiples are possible with twins occurring at approx. one in every 556 births and larger groups of multiples becoming less likely with each individual.

Growth Rate & Stages

Eponni do not have distinct life stages, but rather physically mature slowly over the course of 16 years. After approx. a week they reach the milestone of being able to walk and speak at least somewhat consistently on their own, though are generally not mentally developed enough to no longer be reliant on their parents. From there self sufficiency is extremely varied and some will never be able to live without assistance from their communities.

Ecology and Habitats

Eponni typically live in open savannah grassland, woodlands, forests, deserts, and mountains, but can acclimate to cities. They're highly adaptable, but are the least suited to cities.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Eponni are omnivores. The majority of their diet consists of insects and fruit. They're known to frequently prey on velvet monkeys.

Behaviour

Male eponni are known to be extremely aggressive to their prey and other male eponni. Female eponni will kill for meat, but are socialized less violently. They kill quickly rather than incapacitate and leave their prey to suffer. There's little to no actual basis for this behavior being a direct consiquence of their sex, but rather something both are socialized into. Female eponni socialized to behave aggressively are just as violent as males, and male eponni socialized with an otherwise female troop are generally docile and more interested in attending to young rather than violently asserting its will on the rest of the troop.   Very little predate them, and what does is met with intense aggression. They have little respect for their predators, and if they can, will kill babies or break eggs.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Eponni typically live in troops of around 50, with a few dominant males guarding several females and their children. When mixed into large communities of other species, they struggle socially without clear heirarchy.

Facial characteristics

Eponni have short, narrow snouts with two forward facing eyes with distinct, movable eyebrows, one narrow, cartilage based nose, and proper lips and cheeks. Their jaws have 40 teeth, with 8 incisors, 12 canines, 8 premolars, and 12 molars.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Eponni are found predominantly in Astridium, Rakia, Rajasha, and Polora.

Average Intelligence

Eponni have a high degree of problem solving and foresight, as well as understanding of social heirarchy. Despite this intelligence, eponni struggle with social interaction with other species, and often attempt to force their typical social dynamics on other species.

Civilization and Culture

Gender Ideals

Within eponni society, male eponni adhere to a strict hierarchy, in which males must be very aggressive to defend or ascend to better positions. This aggression does serve their community in protecting it from predators or other eponni troops, but is not conducive to complex cooperation. Female eponni are generally much more interested in socialization and attending to their young.   Interestingly, when male eponni are aggressive to the females of their troop, they're extremely likely to be immediately punished, and if the aggression is habitual, banished from the troop.

History

Eponni were discovered as a species in 204959.
Scientific Name
Sol Simiae
Lifespan
75-90 years
Conservation Status
Least Concern
Average Height
3m (at shoulder)/5m (standing)
Average Weight
5.5-13.5 tons
Average Length

Average Physique
Eponni are well built for climbing, and are generally very strong. Their running speed is very impressive for a creature of their size. They're known to use brute force to incapacitate rather than kill.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
The majority of eponni have red, orange, or brown skin. Their fur is light grey or beige, and course. They usually have brown eyes, pale amber, or a more vibrant orange if they have abundant chroma.
