Nameless

A Short History of Nameless

Mortal Life

The day the Nameless ascended to god hood was the day they removed all traces of their existence from the world, except those that related directly to their ascension. Thus the story of their life is completely unknown and will likely never be uncovered, unless they decide that they want to share it with the world.

Ascension

A long time after the Darkness was defeated by the ancestral gods and people had settled into cities, there was a fear that struck their hearts. What if the Darkness would return? What if the Gods would be too weak to seal it away again? What if...? One person took control of that fear and proposed a bold new solution. They would sacrifice themselves, negotiating with the Darkness to buy as much time as possible, to enable their people to flee as far away as possible.
This was only a con, a con that got out of hand and suddenly new cults around this person sprung up in almost all cities, attracting enough belivers to give it actual power. This in turn gave way to another plan, another coup. The leader would negotiate with the Darkness, if only their people would lend them their voices, so that they could speak for everyone at once. So their people agreed and the Nameless took everything they believed in, as well as their power.
So the people lost their voice, from then on eternally cursed to speak only in words and sounds they had heard from others, their voices gone and replaced by borrowed ones. But godhood has its own rules too, a promise had to be kept. The Nameless was forced to use their godly power to give the people the power to fllee and escape, transforming them into the Birdfolk we know today with the wings of freedom, the promis was fullfilled. Since this day the people have tried and tried again to regain their lost voices, an eternal dream.
How the Kenku lost their wings however, is a completely different story for another time.

Worship

Worshippers

All kinds of Birdfolk worship Nameless as their creator and patron, hoping that they will eventually give back what they took from them, keeping theit promise and raising the people to new heights. All those that talk for a living, merchants, conmen, diplomats etc. also worship the silver-tongued creature, hoping to be blessed with their ability to convince people of their genuine intentions. Thieves admire their feats and story tellers see them as the creator of their profession.

Priests
You will find the most beautiful choirs and singers among the priesthood. Not all of them settle down, however, many of them choose to become wandering preachers, spreading the word of freedom and indulgence to anyone that would want to hear it.

Paladins
Not a lot of people dedicate their life to the Nameless one. Those that do are very hard to understand, often using the law to their own advantage, pursuing their own selfish goals as much as justice.

Acts of Woship

Every lie that benefits yourself, but also every act of freedom and flight as well. When you endulge a selfish desire and when you betray those that trusted you for your own personal gain.

Temples

Temples to the Nameless often are decked out in gold and gems, an offering to the Nameless, in hopes of bringing them back to the people they had abandoned so many millenia ago. You will often find musicians and bards travelling to those temples, swapping songs and stories while enjoying the finer things of life there.
