Journey
A Short History of Journey
Mortal Life
When the Age of Darkness, the Age of Nomads, came to an end. When the ancestral gods beat back the Darkness and sealed it forevermore. During this time a new generation was born. A generation that only knew life in cities, towns and villages. To them travelling was nothing more than an inconvenience, instead of the only way to preserve their very souls. As the world healed, the roads also became more dangerous as evil also managed to creep in and recuperate. One brave soul made it her lifes mission to ensure the safety of as many travelers as possible. Spending days and nights journeying from newly built villages to cities and back, securing the roads, driving back monsters and accompanying anyone that did not dare go alone. Many roads and streams were discovered or built by her, many a safe way found through a dense forest or dangerous mountain path.
Ascension
When her life came to an untimely end, finding death at the fnags and claws of a long forgotten monster, she petitioned the gods to give her more time. Time to return to the realm of the living, not for her own sake, not for saying goodbye to friends and family, she had left them behind long ago. No, she petitioned to return to kill the monster, so that it may not hurt another soul. The ancestral gods, still young for gods, decided that she had led an honourable life and should find a place among their ranks. She would not be able to return to the mortal realm, but she would receive the power to ensure the safety of all travelers and journeymen over the course of the ages.
Worship
Worshippers
Anyone that is on a journey will find protection from the journey, if they have a specific goal in mind or if they are out and about without a special reason. All that have to make a long journey are praying to not run into trouble, and if they do, that they will be protected. Many a pilgrim has dedicted at least a part of their travels to the Journey, just to be on the safe side.Priests
The Journey is a god of the common people, why would you need priests to convey such simple messages? Often priests mainly dedicated to other deities also give blessings in the name of the Journey, adding her portfolio to theirs.Paladins
All those that keep the roads safe during night and day, could be considered Paladins of the Journey. There is no formal induction, no oath truly sworn, just a dedication to do the right thing. If you ever find yourself coming to the aid of another traveler, you might find your sword lighter and faster, your feets more steady rooted to the ground and your mind sharper than ever. On this day you have received a blessing from the Journey, to do what is right.Acts of Woship
Travelling purely for the sake of the travel, to see the world and all that lies beyond. Explore and discover what this the mortal realm holds in stock for its inhabitants. Help fellow travelers, share your rations and your fire, aid them when they are wounded, show compassion for all on a journey.Temples
Along all major roads and many a minor one shrines have been erected to honour the Journey. Simple wooden markers, some even carved from stone, they often serve as wayposts, telling weary travellers that they are still on the right track and will find safety soon. Whoever can afford to do so leaves an offering of food or other supplies and all that need it may take them freely. However, refuse to give when you can or take when you shouldn't - this will incurr the wrath of the Journey.
