Gullveig

A Short History of Gullveig

Mortal Life

There are two versions of Gullveig's early life as a mortal. Which one you believe is up to you.
Gullveig was once a simple merchant, working in her parents small store and quickly realizing the potential it had. As she grew older, she took over the shop and began to implement changes and improvements, making it so much more profitable than before. Stories tell how she managed to make even the greediest miser pay the merchandises worth, haggling astronomical sums down to something people could actually pay.
Her rise to wealth was fast and noteable enough, that her family was raised to the place of a minor noble line, being granted land and titles in a kingdom long since forgotten.
Gullveig was a child from the streets, that managed to scrounge up a living from dealing with other urchins and the much more shady people from the underworld of her home. She always had a mind for business and coin, rapidly rising through the ranks of her local thieves guild, first becoming a fence and later clawing herself to the top, claiming the position of guild leader. Eventually the noble houses were forced to recognize her as an equal, almost all of them being in her debt, pocket or under threat.

Ascension

The events of her ascension are almost entirely unknown, although it is a common joke to claim, that she was so incredibly rich in the end, that she managed to buy her way into divinity.
What is much more likely is, that she had gathered a large enough following and enough renown to actually claim a place among the divine.

Worship

Worshippers

All those that work with money in any way pay her defference. Merchants, money lenders, thieves or even nobles with a sizeable amount of money hidden away. Many among the common folk pray to her, when taking risks to increase their personal fortune, be it robbing the vault of a noble house or introducing a new pastry to their customers.

Priests
Priests of Gullveig often are merchants themselves, proudly showing the wealth they have aquired, seeing it as a blessing from their god. Depending on the individual, they tend to either focus on the legal aquisition of wealth, or the illegal. No matter what, if they lose their wealth, they will lose the favour of their god.

Acts of Woship

Each act of determination, used to bring forth your own wealth serves Gullveig. Every transaction that benefits one party more than the other, every aquisition of wealth is in her name.

First you shall enrich yourself, secondly you shall ensure that your wealth is safe...
