Seteras

The Seteras is a leafless tree that grows in an alpine climate, exclusively on the rolling highlands of Ligaru. It is infamous for its large, alien-like fruit.
The lowhanging fruits enchanted the mind, the decieved becomes the deceased. The pink delight appeared fatal in an instant.

Ecology

Seteras has a hardwood core and a thick bark layer surrounding it. This bark is grey in colour and very smooth, it protects the tree from harsh weather (strong winds, snowfall). The tree has no leaf coverage at all, only large fruits, Pretanui, to accompany the branches. The Pretanui have a diameter of around 20 - 25cm and have a pink hue around them. They are a thin, stretchy, translucent membrane keeping a highly poisonous and viscous juice inside. The Pretanui don't easily break and are able to bounce off a cliff without tearing.

Habitat

This rare tree is found exclusively at higher altitudes on Ligaru. Its sightings have been between 2000m and 4500m but this tree can practically grow anywhere, as long as there are animals to eat their Pretanui. Its main prey are , The Seteras has adapted itself to this species. Over time the tree has shrunk in size for it to be easier for them to eat the fruit.

Biological cycle

Living in high altitudes, the Seteras have to manage a lot of snowfall. In winter and autumn, the tree enters a state similar to hibernation. Its fruits only appear in the summer months, when the animals dare to scale the mountains.

Use

The fruit is highly poisonous, therefore instead of being used in the kitchen,it is mainly used for malicious intent. Over the last ~500 years the deadly juice has been used to kill one's enemies. Especially during the rule of the Branderon, this was the preferred way of execution due to its swiftness and silence. The tree has become rarer over the past decennia though, it still holds much fame and ominous name with the locals as it is ingrained in their culture. The juice is still sometimes used for murder to this day by murderers who want to go for the extra mile.
