Breaking of the Stone

Summary

...The cracks of surface shattered open, revealing many a rift as deep as eternity...
The story unfolds itself after the creation of the wider universe and life on earth. The earth and its first creation, the sun, have an argument over the impact and essence of sunlight on the Stone's surface. The main problem lies with fire, which the earth believes to be a disturbance to its surface while the sun disagrees. After an epic clash, the sun defeats its master, and the earth breaks into uncountable pieces. These pieces are now still around in the form of every mountain, every stone, and even dirt and sand particles. The world, therefore, is the body of the long-lost dead Stone, or god.
...The fire then, it blazed over the Stone, seeping through the cracks of soil, ill-boding the fate of the all-knowing...

Historical Basis

It it known due to the widespread inclusion of a similar event in all cultures that around 1000 years ago massive earthquakes and natural disasters stuck the world. Is this particular myth the earth physically died and got split into uncountable pieces which might infer that these earthquakes clearly had a large impact on Ligaru and its inhabitants.

Variations & Mutation

Almost every village has its own telling of the Breaking of the Stone. The first version was uttered by the great stone of Theven around 200 A.S but since then many different stones have spoken a similar story, and even the Great stone of Theven changes its narration every time. One of the more outspoken variations goes more in-depth about the battle. It claims that the sun also did not survive the clash, where the stars and the sun are the remnants of the actual ancient sun, just like the stones and mountains on earth.

Cultural Reception

The story of how the Stone broke into its current state, is a tale as old as time for the modern windwistling peoples. It is deeply rooted in their culture and Stone lore. They use this story to explain how their communication with the elder stones is possible and how they hold such wisdom in them. Also the explanation of fire has its origins in this story. The windwistlers also have mixed feelings over the sun. they rely on its existence for food and light, but see it as an ominous danger always able to destroy their livelihoods.
