The Shattered World

Created by

The Gods went to war.
They fought, they died and they left. In the process they broke the world.   Today, the world is a scattering of floating islands, nothing more than rocks, really, floating in the Aether, surrounding the sun. The gods left and they took everything they represented form the world: An understanding of good and evil, law or chaos, a way to connect to magic of any kind. The planes are locked away, no elemental, no astral, no nothing but busted earth and empty space.   Seeing that the world was going to end, the dragon, Petricalifax, gathered together as many of the world's sentients as she could, and cast a spell of protection to slow time, and allow them all to survive the rending of the earth. Fifty years ago, she awoke, coming out of the spell first. Since then, more and more of the people caught in her spell have awoken, and they've begun figuring out how to survive.   Using her power of flight, to coast between the Aether, she was able to bring together four islands: The Scepter, where most of us or our parents slept; Coyne, a disk of fertile land where all our crops our grown on both its sides; Korre, the source of crystal with which we attempt to reclaim our magic, and Baobob, the great tree, home of the Druids, and the only source of water we have.   Petricalifax helped us to found our council, but lets us rule ourselves, with a single demand: that all may have a place to live, and all my have food to eat. We have added that all who want a say in how things are done, must serve as Keepers and protect the peace. We still live, and we are starting to get beyond the struggle to survive. Now we look to protect the peace we have and to look out to the other islands floating around the sun, and what parts of our earth we have lost in the Gods' War.   The Shattered world is inspired by Dungeons and Dragons, Spelljammer and Traveller.
