The Grand Dame

Grand Dame

The Grand Dame was a magnificent riverboat that docked in Yartar during the late 15th century DR. Inside its cabin was a luxurious gambling den called the Golden Goose, owned by Yartarran nobleman, Lord Khaspere Drylund.

Description

DM Notes
The ship had three decks. The lower deck contained a small hold with provisions and 16 two-person seats for the rowing crew. The upper deck held the ship's bridge, helm, crew cabins, and Lord Drylund's quarters, along with a poorly-lit ballroom. The main deck housed the ship's kitchen, dining area, and the Golden Goose gambling hall, which featured card tables and a gold-plated goose sculpture. The casino used wooden tokens, referred to as golden geese, as currency.   The ship was elaborately decorated, with ornamental lanterns lining the upper deck balcony, casting light on the deck below. However, Lord Khaspere's personal cabin was known for its exceptionally tasteless decor.

Activities

DM Notes
The Grand Dame remained docked at Yartar from sunrise to sunset. Crew and casino staff boarded before dusk, and shortly after, aristocrats and other wealthy individuals were invited aboard. Each night, the ship sailed upstream, giving guests plenty of time to gamble, eat, drink, dance, and enjoy entertainment. In the early morning hours, the rowers turned the ship back, and the Grand Dame returned to Yartar by dawn.
