Description Esklindrar Iol was a sharp-tongued sage with extensive knowledge of human lore along the Sword Coast. Despite his appearance as an old, feeble man with a white beard, he was protected by High Lady Alustriel Silverhand through several spells.

Personality Irascible and hungry for knowledge, Esklindrar had a sharp tongue and excellent memory. His appearance as a doddering old man belied his true capabilities.

Abilities Esklindrar was an expert in human writings and had an exceptional memory of books and their details. His knowledge of the Sword Coast was vast, rivaling that of Candlekeep scholars. Under Alustriel's protection, he could create a spherical wall of force around himself and summon blade barriers to guard his books, maps, and scrolls. This protection extended to any object he briefly handled.

Possessions Until 1370 or 1371 DR, he was the proprietor of Esklindrar's Maps, Books, & Folios in Yartar, where he lived above the shop and maintained a vast collection of books, scrolls, manuscripts, and treasure maps.

Activities In 1371 DR, Esklindrar was persuaded by Lady Alustriel to manage the Map House in Silverymoon, receiving personal copies of its holdings and the title Master of the House. The Map House, formerly a service of the Heralds of Faerûn, was now part of the Conclave of Silverymoon, where Esklindrar controlled the dissemination of items. He provided guidance and information to adventuring groups investigating treasure and lore.

Relationships Esklindrar was a friend of Alustriel Silverhand and many high-ranking Harpers. Any harm to him would likely provoke a response from the Harpers and adventuring bands he befriended.
