Invidia, Demon Lord of Envy
One of the seven Demon Lords that rules over The Mirror Vale.
Invidia rules over The Mirror Vale, a land constantly warped by illusions and deceptions. The Vale reflects the distorted desires of those who dwell within, making it a place where nothing is ever as it seems. It is a land filled with mirrors that magnify the flaws of individuals, constantly reminding them of what they do not have or cannot achieve.
Invidia's followers, made up of those who feel inadequate or driven by jealousy, live in this land of endless reflection. The Vale is a twisted mirror of the self, where individuals are driven by the need to outshine those around them, becoming consumed by their envy. The inhabitants of the Mirror Vale rarely see the truth of their own reflection, instead seeing distorted, idealized versions of others that they wish to emulate.
Invidia's role in the Vale is both ruler and tormentor. She governs the land with a cruel hand, using her followers’ envy to manipulate them into self-destructive competition and rivalry. Those who live in the Vale are constantly reminded of their inadequacies, and Invidia delights in keeping them locked in a cycle of jealousy, always wanting but never truly obtaining.
Invidia’s influence reaches far beyond the Mirror Vale. Her manipulations extend into the hearts and minds of those who have ever felt envious of others. Whether through subtle whispers, jealousy-fueled betrayals, or even in the form of competitive industries, Invidia sows discord wherever she goes. She encourages envy among nations, turning alliances into bitter rivalries and friendships into wars over pride and status.
Her power is most potent when individuals are pitted against each other in a competition for resources, power, or affection. Invidia is often the unseen force behind such rivalries, manipulating people’s feelings of inadequacy to push them toward destructive decisions.
Her followers, especially in the mortal world, are often ambitious individuals who will stop at nothing to outdo those around them. They may use deceit, trickery, or manipulation to get what they want, creating environments of mistrust and resentment wherever they are. They believe that only through surpassing others can they ever feel fulfilled, and they will do anything to prove their superiority.
Invidia is a manifestation of Envy, controlling a cult of jealousy and resentment.
Invidia represents the lie that one can only be complete by having what others possess. Superbia twisted the virtue of contentment into an insatiable need for comparison and competition, telling others that they should always seek to outshine and outdo those around them.
Physical Description
Invidia, the Demon Lord of Envy, is perhaps the most deceptive of all the demon lords, as her appearance is near human in its beauty—too perfect, yet too artificial. At first glance, she appears as a stunning woman, radiating an allure that is impossible to resist. However, the more one observes, the more unsettling her appearance becomes. There is something slightly "off" about her, a reflection of her obsession with comparison and competition.
Invidia’s beauty is not fixed, but constantly shifting—her form is in a state of perpetual mimicry, as she takes on the traits she finds most desirable in others. Her body has been altered time and time again, adopting features she believes are superior, yet those changes are never truly in harmony, creating a subtle sense of unease. For example, she might have one arm that seems slightly longer than the other, or her features may not line up symmetrically, even if they appear perfect at first glance.
Her hair is long, blonde, and shimmering, but it is an amalgamation of various strands taken from others she has encountered. One of her eyes is a striking blue, while the other is a vibrant, unnatural gold—reflecting her endless desire to compare and compete with those around her.
Invidia wears a red and black battle dress, its sharp cuts and flowing design adding to her almost ethereal beauty. The dress constantly shifts and moves like a living thing, as if it were another extension of her envy-driven persona. Her presence alone seems to demand attention, a magnetic aura that draws others in while creating an insidious sense of inferiority in anyone nearby.
In battle, Invidia’s most disturbing feature becomes apparent: her hands can shapeshift into blades, sharp and deadly, a reflection of her desire to cut down anything—or anyone—that stands in her way. These blades are extensions of her constant need to surpass others, often used with precision and ruthless intent.
Invidia’s form is a reflection of the sin she embodies: the never-ending desire to acquire what others have, to be more than others, and to constantly measure herself against those around her.
Personality
Invidia is consumed by her need to compare, outdo, and surpass everyone around her. She cannot tolerate the idea of anyone having something that she does not. Her obsession with being the best, the most powerful, and the most admired is both a source of pride and an endless source of torment. She is manipulative, using her beauty and charm to inspire jealousy in others, pushing them to compete with one another while she remains the victor in every contest.
Invidia is cunning and strategic, preferring to manipulate others into jealousy and hatred rather than acting directly herself. She knows how to play on people's insecurities, making them feel inferior, and in doing so, she creates a world of competition and strife. Despite her beauty and charm, Invidia’s heart is cold and calculating. She seeks to destroy the harmony between people, turning friendships into rivalries and communities into battlegrounds.
At her core, Invidia craves validation, but it is never enough—her insatiable envy pushes her to constantly need more, always striving to be better than those around her.
Tenets of Faith
- Comparison is the True Measure of Worth:
The faithful of Invidia believe that the only way to understand one's value is through comparison. Whether it is in beauty, wealth, power, or accomplishments, the faithful are encouraged to constantly measure themselves against others, to see how they can be better and surpass their peers. - Desire What Belongs to Others:
True fulfillment can only come from obtaining what others have. Whether through deceit, manipulation, or theft, the faithful are encouraged to pursue what others possess, as this will lead to their ultimate sense of accomplishment. - Perfection is Achieved Through Imitation:
Perfection is not an inherent quality but something to be copied. The faithful are taught that if something in another person is superior, they should strive to emulate it until they have perfected it. There is no room for originality in Invidia’s doctrine—only the pursuit of what is better than what one already has. - Destroy the Happy, Envious Shall Reign:
Invidia's followers believe that the only way to find true joy is through the suffering of others. Those who are content, peaceful, or satisfied with their lives must be made to feel inferior or dissatisfied, thus causing the continual striving and jealousy that Invidia thrives upon.
