Avaritia, Demon Lord of Greed
One of the seven Demon Lords that rules over The Undying Mines.
Avaritia rules The Undying Mines, an enormous underground empire where precious metals, gems, and artifacts are mined at an unceasing pace. The land is rich with ore and treasure, and Avaritia sees it as her personal vault, one that she will never allow to be fully emptied. The deeper the mines go, the more treasure and wealth are uncovered, feeding her insatiable greed. The mines are filled with her followers—humanoid and dragon-like minions who toil day and night, mining and forging, driven by the promise of rewards that will never truly satisfy them.
The mines themselves are a labyrinth of tunnels and caverns, filled with enormous treasure hoards that shine with an unearthly glow. The air is thick with the smell of wealth and the promise of power, but there is a constant undercurrent of danger—Avaritia’s desire for more never stops, and those who fail to meet her expectations are discarded or worse.
Avaritia's cult is built around the worship of wealth and possession. Her followers, known as the Avaricons, believe that through greed and accumulation, they can achieve the highest form of power. They are taught from birth that nothing matters except their own personal gain. They live to hoard, to acquire, and to dominate. The idea of sharing wealth is foreign to them, and those who do not constantly strive to gain more are seen as failures, unworthy of Avaritia’s favor.
In the mines, the workers—be they demon, humanoid, or enslaved—are forced to mine endlessly, never allowed to rest or relax. They live in a state of perpetual exhaustion, their efforts going only to further Avaritia’s accumulation of wealth. The more treasure she amasses, the more she desires, and she will never stop until she owns it all.
Avaritia's influence extends beyond the Undying Mines, spreading like a plague of insatiable greed. Her followers infiltrate every level of society, tempting rulers, merchants, and common folk alike to pursue endless wealth. She promises that those who follow her will never need to work again, that all their desires for riches and power will be fulfilled—at a cost. For as soon as one possesses, they become slaves to their own cravings.
Her cult is one of deception, luring people with the promise of fulfillment, only for them to find themselves trapped in an unyielding pursuit that only leads to emptiness. The more one has, the more one wants, and the cycle repeats—an endless cycle of greed that consumes all.
Avaritia is a manifestation of Greed, controlling a cult of endless desire.
Superbia made Avaritia believe that ownership and control of others and of material wealth were marks of true power. What once may have been healthy ambition was distorted into the endless pursuit of accumulation, convincing others that they need to take what they can from the world to prove their worth.
Physical Description
Avaritia manifests as an immense, golden-scaled dragon, her massive body towering over everything in her domain. She is a sight to behold, with golden scales that shimmer and glisten as if they were forged from the wealth of kings. Her body is adorned with intricate, geometric patterns of gems—sapphires, rubies, emeralds, and diamonds—all embedded within her scales like treasures waiting to be claimed. These gemstones pulse with an eerie glow, a testament to her insatiable hunger for wealth and control.
Her wings are vast and grand, stretching wide and casting shadows over the land as she moves. The tips of her wings are adorned with sharp, diamond-like claws, which she uses to manipulate the wealth and treasures of her domain. A towering crown of seven horns rests atop her head, each horn polished and sharp like a symbol of her immense power. Her eyes gleam with a greedy, unblinking intensity, reflecting a desire for more that can never be quenched.
When Avaritia speaks, her voice echoes through the air like the ringing of gold, deep and commanding, filled with authority. Her every word is laced with the promise of acquisition, of taking what is hers, and her very presence incites an overwhelming urge to claim, to own, and to possess.
Personality
Avaritia is the embodiment of Greed. She is driven by an insatiable hunger for power, wealth, and control. She views everything and everyone as a tool to be used, a possession to be claimed, and an object to be hoarded. To Avaritia, the accumulation of material wealth and the subjugation of others is the truest measure of strength and worth. She believes that only those who possess the most—whether it be riches, lands, or followers—are deserving of respect, power, and adoration.
Her desire for wealth is not simply about luxury, but a deep-rooted belief that ownership equals superiority. In her eyes, to possess is to control, and control is the key to ultimate power. This lust for dominance fuels her every decision, pushing her to expand her influence over all that she can reach, amass fortunes, and force those around her to kneel in submission.
Avaritia has little regard for anything other than accumulation. She views generosity, compassion, or kindness as weaknesses, believing that those who share their wealth or power are simply showing their inferiority. To her, others are mere pawns in the game of life, existing to be exploited and consumed.
Despite her overwhelming power, Avaritia is never satisfied. The more she claims, the more she desires, and her greed becomes a never-ending cycle. The mere act of accumulating wealth, possessions, and servants only makes her crave more, her hunger for control growing with each passing moment.
Avaritia is manipulative and cunning, knowing how to twist others’ desires for material wealth into submission. She lures those who are driven by ambition and the desire to acquire into her service, offering them promises of riches, treasures, and unimaginable power—only for them to find themselves enslaved by her unyielding demands for more.
Tenets of Faith
- The Acquisition of All – The world exists to be claimed. Every piece of land, every treasure, every soul, and every possession is a mark of your power. Take what is yours by any means necessary.
- Control Equals Strength – Only those who possess control—over wealth, over others, and over the world—are truly strong. The one who controls the most is the one who is worthy of admiration and fear.
- The Never-Ending Pursuit – Greed is eternal, and satisfaction is a lie. The more you gain, the more you must take. Your worth is measured by how much you can accumulate, and nothing is ever enough.
- Everything Has a Price – All things are for sale, even life itself. If you desire something, find a way to claim it. To possess is to have the ultimate power, and no one is exempt from this rule.
- Destroy the Weak – Those who are generous or compassionate are foolish and weak. They must be removed or subjugated, for they have not learned that only through greed and control can one rise to greatness.
