Ostrich Egg Shakshuka

In the Southern Tripartite of the Shattered Oceans, a common comfort food to make is Ostrich Egg Shakshuka, and especially amongst the Desert Elves who traditionally keep and tend to the ostriches.

This dish is commonly cooked at feasts, holidays, festivals, and large family gatherings. Because of the size of the eggs, the vessel used to make the dish is usually a huge, low stockpot/water pan. The massive yolks are compared to the suns in the sky, commonly worshipped in the South. Since the native cultures who cook the dish primarily live in the desert, it is typically cooked by leaving it out in the sun to simmer and slow cook, and adding fire as needed to cook at greater heats.

When cooked for a celebration amongst traditional Desert Elves, a prayer of thanks is given to Karna and Calypso. They also petition Mother Nature to welcome the ostriches who laid these eggs into The Beastlands one day, and sprinkle the spices into wind as it blows, uttering lines in their native tongue asking the Sun dieties for blessings and abundance throughout all deserts of the world.
