Cyclone of the Water Maiden

A violent and changing whirlpool located near the Gulf of Iridensa that formed during the Era of Reckoning. It was believed to be a curse that was placed on the sea by the goddess Iridensa due to all of the illicit activity and piracy, and is rumored to have a mind of it's own, even being sentient. There is not just one whirpool -- just one very large one. However smaller, temporary whirpools pop up in the waters surrounding the Cyclone of the Water Maiden, and the waters are notoriously rougher to sail through.

On maps it is marked about 55 miles off the innermost point of the Gulf Coast. However, this depends on the storm's activity. At it's calmest points, it is a whirlpool that actually sits about 75 miles off the coast, but is marked closer on maps because that is where the waters change currents and it can become more and more difficult to get away. When there are big storms, they take place in rougly a 10 miles radius around the whirlpool. When the whirlpool is behaving as it normally does, the area of affects for random whirlpools and rough waters are noticeable in about a 5 mile radius from the whirlpool.
