The Ilaniyan War

The Ilaniyan War began in 2764 Third Age when the sorcerer Fyodor conquered Ilaniya and allowed a messenger to escape in order to warn Tílunur. This was a calculated gambit to lure the Tílunurens in and weaken them, allowing the B'omarrin Kashar an easier takeover when they attacked. Along with this, the B'omarrin Kashar attacked the messenger to lessen suspicion of such a ploy.

Meanwhile, a group of rebels had formed to resist Fyodor. Several minor skirmishes occured between the resistance and Fyodor's armies of revenants, and a few were killed before the resistance retreated underground, dispersed throughout Ilaniyan cities. At this point, there seemed little hope that the messenger (Kamilus) had ever arrived in Tílunur.

But Kamilus had reached the Castle. Once he had recovered from his journey, he told the Tílunurens of Ilaniya's plight. This caused Tywell III to send Ralthyr Wazavor and Wëls Aluverí to assist Ilaniya, along with Kamilus and their dragons Taurniodh and Audhonr.

Along the way, the five of them passed through Nowhere before reaching the Khyst Isthmus, a thickly forested area covered in snow. There Taurniodh was shot down, and Ralthyr captured by trappers. As per Ralthyr's last orders, Wëls and Audhonr continued to Ilaniya.

The trappers sold Ralthyr to a northern princess who had the intention of courting the mysterious Ranger, of whom little had been heard in those parts except exaggerated legend. However, Ralthyr defied her and was imprisoned. Meanwhile, Taurniodh found a Wise Woman to heal his wounds before leaving to seek out Ralthyr.

Arriving in Ilaniya, Wëls met the rebels and discussed strategy. After a long discussion, Wëls (along with Kvisagur and Mikhalev, two of the younger rebels) covertly visited an enemy outpost to try to discover some useful information. In the process, they were almost killed by revenants before Kvisagur was able to cast a spell that dispersed the magic keeping them alive. They continued further into the tower, but found only a shrine containing a painting of a woman Kvisagur insisted was his mother. They left the tower, taking the painting with them for further investigation.

A week of strategising and mustering forces went by. Outside of Ilaniya, Taurniodh was approaching the castle where Ralthyr was being held prisoner. After a brief fight, Ralthyr was freed and they headed north to meet up with Wëls. Once they arrived, Wëls and the leaders of the resistance consulted with the Ranger before gathering their forces and making their way north under cover of darkness. For the next eleven days, they marched towards the Ilaniyan capital, from which Fyodor ruled. On the twelfth day they arrived and made preparations for the assault. On the thirteenth day, the attack began.

A group of the rebels were ordered to launch long-range fireballs at the palace of ice Fyodor had magically constructed, while taking the utmost care not to hit any other part of the capital. Meanwhile, the strike team had infiltrated the city before the bombardment began, and now made their way towards the palace. When they reached the palace, Wëls contacted the bombardment group and told them to wait five more minutes before ending their attack. This, he hoped, would deceive the enemy as to when they had entered the palace.

The strike team made their way higher through the palace to the throne room while the bombardiers, Ralthyr, and the dragons stood by as backup. When the strike team reached the throne room, Fyodor was waiting, seeming completely unfazed by the attack. Incapacitating the entire group, he revealed to Kvisagur that he was his father, corrupted by the dark spirits he had summoned to serve him. Helpless, the team could only watch as Fyodor started executing their members. Then he released them from their bonds and said they were free to run if they wished. Most would have run then and there if Wëls had not rallied them.

Fortified by his confidence, the team attacked. Most being mages, they were able to provide cover from a distance while Wëls moved closer to kill Fyodor. Before he could attack, Kvisagur charged, slinging bolts of blue energy. Enraged as he was, every single projectile missed, and he was at Fyodor's mercy, who pinned him down. Wëls called to Ralthyr, who moved in.
"Ralthyr, get in here!"

"You didn't give me time to do my hair!"

"Ralthyr, this is serious! Kvisagur is down!

-Wëls and Ralthyr

Entering the throne room from above by shattering the ice roof, Ralthyr distracted Fyodor long enough for Kvisagur to escape. Then Wëls went in, attacking Fyodor with water he drew from the ice around them. However, Ralthyr's explosive entry, and now Fyodor's distraction, had destabilised the palace, and it was falling to pieces around them. As the rest of the strike team struggled to stay alive, Wëls and Ralthyr attacked Fyodor with full force. The sorcerer retaliated, firing ice spears at the two. Wëls shattered the spears while Ralthyr got ever closer, readying a blast of lightning while fighting back the incapacitating flashbacks. As Fyodor attacked again, Ralthyr covered the last few metres in a giant leap and fired at point blank range, killing Fyodor and shattering the ice around him in an explosive shockwave.

As the palace collapsed around them, the remains of the strike team hurried to escape. When the debris settled, they stopped and relaxed. The Ilaniyan War was over.
