Emelon Tistúren

Emelon Tistúren, or the City of Thunder, was the city that lay upon the side of Eronr Laurin, the Mountain of Ashes. It was a bastion of the Unseen, and a haven for all peoples seeking refuge from the dangers of the Spine of Irëduin. It has always been governed by a mage, and it was the seat of power of the duskwalker Elothar Stormwind in the years before the Mage's Exile.
Destroyed during the Exile, the city was rebuilt by Elothar after the Resurgence.

History

The city was built during the Second Age, to act as a safe haven against the dangers of the then-uncivilised Arcallon. When Tywell the Conqueror settled Arcallon at the beginning of the Third Age, the city became part of his kingdom, the elves who built it agreeing to relinquish control to Areston, the head of Tywell's mages.
Lordship of the city passed down through Areston's bloodline until its end a hundred years before Tywell II came to power. The city moved between many different leaders in that time before settling with Elothar Stormwind, a young duskwalker and lexomancer. It was he who governed the city at the time of the Mage's Exile.
Because of its large number of magic-using inhabitants, the city was razed to the ground during the Exile. After its destruction, the city was abandoned by the Unseen, and therafter it became known as Eron Istar, or the Hill of Chains. The Arcallish government used it as a secret base for a few generations, although it was vacated during the reign of King Tymror.
After the Resurgence, Elothar returned to the city and started rebuilding. The project took several years, although a large portion of the Unseen were willing to help, and the work went quicker than expected.

Defences

Emelon Tistúren was defended by the Thöndargard, a group of elite warriors, most of them mages. Trained in a variety of weapons, they were primarily stationed along the wall to augment the regular guards.
In addition, there were the walls themselves, thicker and taller than those of any nonmagical city. Towers interrupted the wall regularly, each holding a magic cannon.
