Introduction

Blue Quartz is a mesmerizing semi-precious gemstone renowned for its stunning azure hue and enchanting properties. This captivating crystal has long captured the imagination of adventurers, mages, and jewel collectors alike. In the realm of Dungeons & Dragons, Blue Quartz is not only prized for its beauty but also for its magical affinity with the element of water.

Magical Properties of Water

Within the heart of Blue Quartz lies a connection to the element of water, endowing the stone with mystical properties that resonate with aquatic energies. When attuned to a spellcaster or an artifact, Blue Quartz can augment spells and enchantments related to water and ice.
Enhancement of Water Magic: Blue Quartz serves as a catalyst for water-based spells, heightening their potency and extending their duration. Spells like "Create Water," "Control Water," and "Water Breathing" become more potent when channeled through this gem.
Protection from Water-based Threats: When held or worn, Blue Quartz grants the bearer some protection from water-related dangers. It can aid in traversing treacherous waters, preventing drowning, and providing resistance to cold damage.
Summoning Aquatic Beings: Blue Quartz possesses a unique property that allows it to act as a beacon for aquatic creatures. In the hands of a skilled caster, the gem can be used to summon and communicate with water elementals or aquatic beings like water nymphs and nereids.

Value

Blue Quartz holds considerable value in the world of trade and magic. Its rarity and the demand for its water-affinity make it a sought-after gemstone among adventurers, mages, and seafarers. On the market, a raw Blue Quartz typically sells for around 10 gp, while finely cut and enchanted Blue Quartz gemstones can command a much higher price.

Legends and Folklore

Throughout the ages, Blue Quartz has been the subject of numerous myths and legends. Some believe that the gem originated from tears shed by water deities, imbuing it with their divine power. Tales speak of ancient sea spirits gifting Blue Quartz to worthy heroes, guiding them through treacherous waters.

Uses in Crafting and Enchanting

Crafters and enchanters value Blue Quartz for its magical affinity with water. It is often used in the creation of water-themed magical items, such as amulets that grant water breathing, rings that create protective water barriers, or staffs that control water currents. Alchemists also seek the gem for infusing potions with water-related properties.

Had a look at this article and enjoyed how straight to the point it is. I would love to see a character making use of this item well and often... maybe to befriend water nymphs and make them their ally or to solve maritime issues by using their water breathing for ship improvements? Who knows? Anyways, I'm intrigued. Thanks for sharing!
