Inkpot Pond

The greatest treasure any scribe could hope for.
Inkpot Ponds are pools formed by raw magic, black as the night and still as the void. It can appear almost anywhere, but tends to do so in places far away from humanity, nestled deep within ancient ruins where forgotten spells have been distilled to dust and seeped into the soil. Over generations, they gather and form the black pools of the Inkpots. The liquid within the pools behave as something half-way between a thick dye and water. When disturbed, it ripples slowly and flashing runes can be seen within the creasing waves. No matter how violently it is splashed or churned, the Inkpot Ponds never foam or bubble.   Mages prize the ponds as a generally useful source of reagents, suitable for a wide range of different spells. It has no particular resonance and is useful for no particular kind of magic, offering instead a slight boost of raw power. To those less magically inclined, an Inkpot Pond is a near-infinite source of highest quality ink and black dye. Texts written with the Inkpot's liquids never stain, smudge or disappear, but can burn and be destroyed as easily as any other.
