Fire Moss Species in The Scrunk | World Anvil

Fire Moss

Fire Moss is a reddish-orange moss that buds small, blazing crystals that grows underground, along leylines keyed to the element of Fire. They are warm to touch and glow brightly in the dark while young. Old and dying Fire Moss begin to dim to a cracked orange before finally fading to a smouldering charcoal. Dead Fire Moss turn into brittle black glass, similar to obsidian.   The crystals that sprout from the moss burn with an inner flame and parts of the moss around them will on occasion catch on fire. Such blazes doesn't damage the moss, but rejuvenates and clears out the old and weak.

Fuel & Fire

Fire Moss is sometimes used as an accelerate to start fires, willing to ignite into a blaze with the slightest spark.   A "moss-box" is a common item in areas where the fire moss is plentiful, containing a mixture of wood shavings, discarded wool and fire moss.

Ley Lines

The world is criss-crossed with streams of energy; the blood essence of the very world-soul. Such lines exert a powerful influence on land and oceans - and often the creatures in their path.   The world-soul is not one, but a multitude. Each has its own element their leylines carry this essence with them. When they cross, the resulting friction of energy create powerful and dangerous sites of magic.
