— Spaceport PA System, 382

The New Calypso International Spaceport is the largest spaceport on Asteria. As the sole spaceport serving New Calypso and the surrounding cities, if not the entire planet, its traffic is among the largest of Elysium, with well over half a million flights per year. This gave the spaceport a reputation of being the busiest and the most likely to suffer from flight delays in the Federation. In addition, such a high traffic allowed the Underworld to smuggle many goods offworld, despite the best efforts of the government.

During the Asterian Insurrection, the spaceport became a heavily fortified military base, and while the military no longer holds any power on the spaceport itself, its scars have yet to be healed. This overwhelming military presence, even to this day, nevertheless had a beneficial outcome. With military checkpoints becoming mandatory to reach the spaceport, much of the smuggling done before the war is now at its lowest, with several hundred tons of contraband being seized each year.

The New Calypso International Spaceport was initially built in 178 by the original settlers of Asteria. Looking for a more permanent base of operations for their aircrafts to land and unload their supplies, the ideal location was a dry and flat area some 83 kilometers away from the city. The first two runways were completed in the same year and the first flights arrived in January 179. This early spaceport was eventually expanded and refurbished progressively over the years, culminating in seven terminals and six runways before the Interstellar War. The conflict destroyed much of the spaceport before burying it under radioactive ashes, leaving nothing but ruins behind.

After the war, the spaceport remained buried for several decades before the launch of the Asterian Restoration Initiative. The New Calypso spaceport was the first location to be restored to an operational status, serving as the Initiative's base of operations. As the Initiative's work progressed, its main base of operations moved to the capital city of New Calypso, while retaining control of the spaceport. After the Initiative completed its objectives, the spaceport returned under the control of New Calypso, and repairs progressed smoothly until their completion in 285.

Access

The New Calypso International Spaceport is well interconnected with the local maglev and road networks. In addition to these conventional transport methods, the spaceport also contains the necessary infrastructure to host airships and smaller shuttles for intercity and trans-continental flights.

Facilities

Civilian

The New Calypso International Spaceport is comprised of seven terminals, each separated into thirty gates for embarking and disembarking passengers and cargo. In addition to these terminals are twelve airship docks and sixteen landing pads for spacecrafts.

Military

While no longer a military base, the spaceport still retains some of its defenses. Most of the perimeter wall, made of reinforced concrete, still stands to this day. Although the spaceport itself has long lost its defensive armament, there is a significant military presence in the area, with a whole section of the spaceport dedicated to this military garrison.
