Bounty Hunting

My, my, do you know how much you're worth nowadays?
— Miranda Rosenthal, 383

Bounty Hunting is a practice performed by licensed bounty hunters. It consists in capturing or, if necessary, killing fugitives and other criminals in exchange for a rewards. These rewards can be and often are monetary, but they can also include items or exclusive services. Bounty hunting is generally seen with a negative connotation, as most licensed bounty hunters are cold and ruthless. Some eventually get a reputation among law enforcement and even military organizations, but the vast majority remain nameless workers of the government. Most bounty hunters consider these activities to be a full-time job, leading them to live a modest but exciting life. Some, however, are more opportunistic and only hunt when in their interest.

Bounty hunting emerged in the aftermath of the Interstellar War when MINERVA's collapse led to massive unrest. With the local police forces overwhelmed, bounties started to appear for the capture or elimination of ringleaders and other dangerous individuals. This resulted in a slow decrease of unrest before the Vestan Federation was founded. Since then, bounty hunting continues to occur, especially against pirates and other outlaws roaming in the world. Relations between bounty hunters and official organizations have deteriorated, however, as bounty hunters often lack the rigor and discipline they originally had.

Each license is given to a single named individual and is to be renewed every three years with additional exams.

Regulations and fees

With bounty hunting being an official job, each reward is taxed accordingly once received. Numerous clauses are also present in the bounty contracts, adding more constraints for the bounty hunters. In addition, the bounty hunter license also incurs a yearly fee of 2 500 PLVs.
