The Trail of the Dead

This is the nickname given to the winding high road that leads into the foothills of the Spine of the World, in the northern-most reaches of Gavenlow. The road stretches along the entirety of Gavenlow and is, in parts, a major thoroughfare. It begins in two prongs, one that connects where High Bridge meets Gavenlow, and one that begins down in Southbridge. They meet at a fork and continue on north, skirting around High Street and upon into the mountains several miles.

Purpose / Function

Since transportation of corpses to the Temple of Passage is considered an important and sacred duty, the road is well marked, well lit by lamp light at night, and often patrolled.

History

Some superstitions about the road exist, though it has such common use (and so many uses beyond the transportation of the dead), that only fools and cowards tend to avoid it.
The Emerald Forces and the Priests of Passage observe co-responsibility of guard and maintenance of the road.
