Wayfinder's Cartographer

A potent magical item, the Wayfinder's Cartographer is a map charged with powerful divination magic to automatically draw a map of any area it travels through. This self-writing map is connected to the senses of the user it is attuned to, and as such is somewhat limited to their observation ability. This attunement allows for the user to create specific notes and details which they find important to a location.   Another common feature is for a Wayfinder's Cartographer to be attached to a Lodge Cartographer, functionally a 'master' map which is linked to several of these maps, to allow for both multiple perspectives on an area, and exploration and mapping of an area by more than one team.   These maps are strongly associated with the Pathfinder Society which produces these tools. The exact methods for creating these maps is a closely guarded secret by the society, with only their highest ranking members and artificers knowing the details of the rituals used to create and control the Cartographers. The Grand Lodge, the headquarters of the Pathfinder Society in Absalom, is rumored to have an even grander version of this map called Society Cartographer occupying one of the walls of The Repository, which receives the map information of every Wayfinder's Cartographer ever created.   The Governor's Manor in Gundrun hosts Lodge Cartographer, and owns several linked Wayfinder's Cartographers, a gift to Governess Vasira Eldins by the Pathfinder Society as a token of support to the Descendants of Old Sarkoris and their efforts in the region once held in the grip of the Worldwound. Several members of the Governess's advisors, particularly Hag Larg are skeptical of this gift from the Society, suspecting it may be a way for the Society to keep track of their progress in reclaiming Sarkoris.
