Water

Water is the power that drives the cluster. It provides the hydrogen that powers the jump drives that are used to propel spaceships through space and has the added benefit of also providing the oxygen that keeps Travellers alive when they inhabit those same ships.   Sometimes called "The Elixir of Life Itself".

Properties

Material Characteristics

Generally found to be a colorless liquid at standard temperatures for humans. When frozen it becomes ice, a mildly hard substance able to support a human when thickness exceeds about 10 centimeters. When heated above its boiling temperature, it becomes a gas that mixes with the rest of the air. It is felt as a more humid condition and when above about 50% is considered uncomfortable to humans.

History & Usage

Everyday use

Water is required to maintain life in humans and most other species that have been encountered in the Sagittarius Cluster. It can be used as art or part of an art form, can support various sports in either liquid or frozen form, and provides the basic substance needed to fuel jump drives in spaceships.

Cultural Significance and Usage

Those with and/or control water sources are basically able to control human and other water based life. Without water most species will die, usually in rather short spans of time.

Hazards

Water or humid conditions can lead to the deterioration in certain metals and metallic substances, generally as an enabler for oxidation.

Reusability & Recycling

Water can and is generally recyclable. Most human and water based species waste contains water which can be distilled and reused. Care is usually taken to decrease odors and tastes that are objectionable to humans during this process.

Water, in its various forms, is freely available throughout the cluster. It is found on worlds in oceans, lakes, and rivers. It's also found in frozen form in asteroid belts and other planetoids throughout star systems.
