Sand Worms

Sand worms are found on many of the dry planets in the Sagittarius Cluster. They all have multi-segmented bodies and appears to survive by ingesting silicone and purifying it, making their excretion highly refined silicon that can be used in multiple ways in a technological society.

Anatomy

Multiple segments, similar to the native Terran earthworm.

Genetics and Reproduction

Typically, when the worm is bisected, either through sheer size or through violence, the worm is able to grow the missing pieces back. Sometimes they die.

Ecology and Habitats

Sand worms are found on many, if not most, of the dry, desert works in the Cluster. Although they are called "sand" they may be found in other dry environments, but they will not be found near water or other types of moisture.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They appear to feed on silicone, but produce a painful welt on humans when they are disturbed and are able to grab on to the skin.

Social Structure

None, they are found as individuals and seem to avoid being around other worms.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Only on worlds with extremely dry climates, not on worlds that only have dry areas. Total world hydrographic percentage must be less than 12 percent to find them in the wild.

They are not intelligent and only respond to being perturbed from their natural state.
