Session 4: A Grim Awakening
General Summary
The characters find themselves restrained in a pitch black prison cell. With them is a grotesque light sensitive creature that spits out a paralysing poison. Just as they try to untie themselves, the metal door slams open, and two guards throw another prisoner into the cells. A High-Elf Lady called Vadania joins and with her clever finesse the party can both dissolve the creature using an acid vial and escape the prison cell.
Outside they find a carousing camp of bandits, with only a few on active guard duty. Beside the jail house they notice a heap of chests and boxes and begin looting it rather loudly. This alerts the camp and a fight breaks out. While the initial guards are easily disposed of with the help of Vadania, the rest of the camp seems to ready itself for a though fight to the death. The party decides to run out through the main door and flee into the forest.
After a short chase scene the party finds itself lost in the thick woods in a pitch black night. Luckily, one of the items found by anhiri proves to be a magical compass. They head out north and soon encounter a couple of pixie fey pyromaniacs. They convince them to leave them alone and instead set the bandit camp on fire. Not much later, they start getting into an argument about wanting to rest. They settle on having an hour long short rest, during which gerrith decides to scout the imminent area, as he discovers a crossroads in the path ahead. There is a crow nearby to which he speaks and learns that the path north leads over a river and into a marshland where a single shack stands.
Preparing to continue after the rest, the party starts to loudly argue again, which attracts a group of wolves to ambush them. Gerrith was able to notice them in time, escaping the initial attack and severing the head of his attacker. Brokr in a heroic moment tinkered with his magic control to alter his burning hands spell to create tiny swirling flame rockets that precisely target all remaining wolves. One of has a flame penetrate his snout into his skull and explodes from the inside out. The only thing left is a carcass ribcage that surrounds a cosy campfire.
After continuing north, the party meets the river separating them from the marshland on the other side. In order to cross, Vadania improvised a grappling hook and allowed the party to make a balancing act to cross. She herself slipped in an unlucky accident and was washed away by the river. The party continued without her through the swamp. The soon found a little shack with a barrel standing just outside of it. Gerrith approaches stealthily and determines that there only seems to be an old lady sleeping inside, so he decides to open the barrel and finds what he believes to be a healing potion inside. It was not a healing potion. The party then continues north while brokr carries the intoxicated gerrith.
They arrive at the river Elaris and head upstream. As the sun finally rises, they exit the forest and find Millborough not to far from here. Urok Hey invites them to rest up for the day, after which they go onwards towards Goldcrest. Finally arriving there, the party splits off as Misa is intrigued if the Druid from the Briarwood Enclave is still there. The rest head promptly to the mayor's office.
Misa is warmly greeted by the tavern keep, Valcius Furox, who informs her that the briarwood druid left a while ago. When the Pale Fangs arrived, they brought a druid of their own, who helped to heal everyone very swiftly. She asks where this druid can be found, and Valcius points the way. The person in question turns out to be Maya, A wood-elf druid girl with long brown hair and green highlights. She imminently invites misa to a game of cards and agrees to teach her a thing or two about medicine and healing people.
The rest of the party finds mayor Elvira Fairwind in her office planning with a huge white dragonborn, who introduces himself as Istor Icefang, the leader of the Pale Fangs. The party learns that there are goblins grouping with bandits in the north and prepering to strike again. Istor proposes a preemptive strike and offers to train the group. Elvira also mentions that hod Ironhand has been working on more weapons and armour that the party can equip themself with.
