Synthesis Settlement in The Ring of Fire and Dragons. | World Anvil

Synthesis

Synthesis is the modern seat of government in Awsranka. It was purpose built after the founding of the Free Cities of Awsranka. As such, it is more centrally located than the other major cities and has a more modern vibe.

Demographics

By species: 60% human, 15% half-elf, 10% halfling, 5% dwarf, 5% other. Among the humans, those of Phastian lineage predominate.

Government

Synthesis is the seat of power for the Free Cities of Awsranka. Costs associated with the High Court and the Marquis' Table are covered by national taxes which are collected from each Free City. Within Synthesis, each Marquis has a district that is considered an extension of their territory. Within that district, the laws and infrastructure are the responisibility of that Marquis.

Infrastructure

While the intermittent water supply of cancer creek had attracted a few ranches to be established, the settlement did not become a significant population center until it was chosent to become the seat of power for the Free Cities. Along with a ring road, the central buildings of the Marquis' Table and the High Court, a force of Druids and Dwarves and Halflings arrived to impliment water creation, retention, and distribution systems. This allowed a significant portion of the surrounding region up and down cancer creek to sustain agriculture and thus keep the city fed. Over time, fisheries were added to increase the local stock of fish migrating to the ocean and then back up the Mother's River.

Districts

Generally speaking, the districts of the city are open to all. Things are more resticted when the High Court, or the Marquis' Table are in session. Each Marquis keeps an embassy in their district, which is of course guarded and only open to those with authorization.   Vantage District: If you are trading in grain, wine, or olive oil, this district is where you'll be doing most of your business. The Vintner's Market has tasting rooms representing some of the oldest vineyards in Awsranka.   Mossfellsbaer District: As the center of the river-trade up and down Mother's River, there is always a strong representation of the Ti'Swak cultural influence and trade in exotic goods from accross the ocean. The House of the Rising Sun also has a daughter house here, which makes this district well known for its night-life.   Nerndihr District: The market of this district is dominated by display rooms showing samples of the metalwork one can order from the smiths on that region. Although the territory of Nerndihr is mostly dwarven, most dwarves have found the geography of Synthesis extremely depressing, and so aside from the embassy, most residents here not dwarves. However, the archetecture of this district is distinctly dwarven, featuring quite a lot of imported granite.   Kavallos District:   Spangle District:   Chelan District:   Lillefoss District:

Guilds and Factions

The guilds maintain a significant presence in Synthesis, generally locating their headquarters in districts most related to the nature of the guild. The guild representitives are not necessarily persuing their trade in Synthesis, so much as trying to influence the High Court and Marquis' Table.   The Cathedral of Eldath is the seat of the high priest, who lives in a connected residence. So the church hierarchy is also a faction within the city.   Other independent political parties are also over-represented here, as this is the place to influence national policies. Among them griffinswatch, and draconis prostatis.   Also, there is a blood crow here.
