Summer Camp 2023 PLEDGE in The Ring of Fire and Dragons. | World Anvil

Summer Camp 2023 PLEDGE

I hereby pledge...

to fully engage during Summer Camp 2023
with the work of world building,
and with the community of wonderful beans here at World Anvil.

Worlds of Focus

My creative focus, however, will be split between two of my worlds.

  • The Ring of Fire and Dragons will get the majority of creative work as I continue to develop the world for RPG use, this time with multiple systems in play.
  • Exploring Wildemount will get updated according to the lore generated and events surrounding the adventuring parties who have been wandering Wildemount over the past year.

Medal Goal

Last year, I made Silver. While I am tempted to go for gold this year, I think I'm going to focus more on quality over quantity. I hope to enter August with little polishing/editing left to do. I'd like to be able to confidently recruit my players to engage with the content I've created on WA.

Theme Preparation: Power

The Ring of Fire and Dragons

While I have started this theme a bit, my adventuring party is getting to a level where they will have access to political leaders, so I need to fill out the ranks and develop protocal /divisions of power.

Spiritual powers

  • Eldath's Cascades
  • Malar (the Hunt)
  • Order of St Gwen Dragonsbane

Political powers

  • Grytack City Council
  • Draconis Prostatis
  • Griffon's Watch
  • Redbrand Guard
  • The Cloud Kingdom

Exploring Wildemount

While the guide lays out fairly detailed descriptions of the governments and factions in Wildemount, I have added a couple unique to my world (indicated by the *). In addition, some of the factions need detailing on a lower, more local level, as they are becoming importatnt to my adventuring party.

Spiritual powers

  • Vecna cult (Yuan-ti)*
  • Queen of Ravens cult (Bysaes Tyl)*

Political powers

  • Giants*
  • Council of Three
  • Cobalt soul / Cerebus Assembly

Military powers

  • Giants*
  • Bysaes Tyl Rangers*

Theme Preparation: Frontiers

The Ring of Fire and Dragons

A big frontier (metaphysical) is the application of scientific method, both to expanding understanding of the natural world, AND discovering new approaches to MAGIC.

A physical frontier that I'm beginning to explore is the Underdark. Dwarven culture and settlements took a big hit during the rule of the Red Emperor; only recently are folks discovering underground ruins and reopening collapsed access to the vast regions under the mountains

Exploring Wildemount

Dunrock Mountain Range Little is known about these mountains that provide a natural boundtry between the Salivir Woods and the Pearlbow Wilderness. However, I have placed my Giants here, who are agressivly building strongholds and vying for controll of the north-west Marrow Valley.

Blightshore This region of Wildemount is characterized by ruins, wild magic, and desperate people. I would like to write an adventure path for this location.

Theme Preparation: Relics

The Ring of Fire and Dragons

In terms of deep history, this is an area I really haven't explored at all. Since the Can'otial have mostly dissappeared to the West, there are many possibilities for elven artifacts being left behind. Perhaps also some from the founding of Awsranka, namely having come with the first wave of immigrents (the Minoan peoples).

More recently, I've borrowed Sir Terry's character, Bloody Stupid Johnson, as the creater of random semi-useless, slightly cursed magic items. I think these could be classified as "relics", though they're only about 100 years old.

Exploring Wildemount

The first artifact to come to mind is a Luxan Beacon. Perhaps I could write "an adventure path" to discover a new one, possibly located in Blightshore.

Plenty of areas in Wildemount are potential sites for lost artifacts/relics: the Savalir Woods/Molesmyr; Blightshore. Of course there's always Eisselcross. It might be fun to design some "new" Aorian Relics.

Theme Preparation: Communication

Ring of Fire and Dragons

In Awsranka, there is a lot of covert communication hidden in plain sight. Malar's cultists post "hunting season" posters that most mistake for local policies, not information about The Hunt. Of course there is thieves sign discretely inscribed nearly everywhere. It will be important to develop the "how" of communication and coordination between the Brigadier, the Blood Crows, and the Gore Crows, as well as Draconis Prostatis.

I have made reference to messages and packages being moved via regular courriers, at least within Vantage Province. Important messages between Provinces too long for sending spells are probably sent via Griffon Rider, as the distances between major cities is significant.

Exploring Wildemount

Within the Dwendalian Empire, there is probably an official postal service - though not door to door, more likely post office to post office. And very likely, there is quite a bit of reading happening between sender and reciever. Otherwise, there would be private courrier services operating out of the Clovis Concord (probably banned in the Empire, or at least closely watched), and perhaps one operated by the Banking Houses for their own secure communications.

However, there are several secrative factions, such as the Golden Grin, the Claret Order, and the Children of Malice. Perhaps they have other wasy of passing information... courrier pseudodragons? dead drops?
