Seasons

Also known as:Do you want to live forever?1

In the springtime, when the world was new
I laughed in the gentle rains.
And gathered t' wild blooms to my breast
Spring flowers promise seed
and carried them back to my home.
I've sown them by my door
But the fair flowers wilted and soon lost their glow
their colors grace my garden
and their fragrance was lost to the wind.
their fragrance guides me home
I'll ne'r see again
as I walk,
such wild folk,
as I walk,
such fair folk,
as I walk
lost as the years pass me by.
as I walk down the years that are mine.
In the summertime, when the world grew tall
I danced in the sunlit groves.
My heart open to soul-mate friendship,
True love found me willing
I gave them all rings from my home.
a babe soon followed ring
But the hands holding mine soon left for the dark
now generations later, I see my lover's eyes
and their voices where lost to the wind.
A voice that sounds familiar, calls me grandmama
I'll ne're hold
As I walk
such kind hands,
As I walk
such warm hands,
As I walk
lost as the years pass me by.
As I walk down the years that are mine.
In the autumntime, when the world brought forth fruit
I sang by the bonfire's glow.

Joining the chorus of many merry folk
Passing on all I had learned
Recounting tales of friendship, memorials all to their names.
magic, lore, and wisdom; the mysteries of life
But the light of the fire soon faded,
I taught them to reach skywards
and my words were all lost to the wind.
and now they're catching stars
I'll ne're recount
As I walk
such bright tales,
as I walk
such brave tales,
as i walk
lost as the years pass me by.
as I walk down the years that are mine.
In the wintertime, now my world slips away
I rest as the snow drifts my door.

No laughter, dance, or song. I am silent and still.
No regrets are haunting me
Age clouds my sight; loss wounds my heart.
My heart is full of peace
My loves, 'pon the western shore we’ll meet (an' so mote it be).
And find our souls rejoined.

Now, I'm alone
I have planted
now I'm mourning
I have loved
Now ‘tis me
I have nurtured
lost to the years passing by.
I have walked down the years that were mine.

1. An elf will often sing this song when asked, "what it is like to live forever."

2. The first two lines of the duet are sung in unison. Then the descant part (indicated by italics) weaves in between the main melody.

3. I swear it scans better in elvish.
