Water Elemental Mages: The Basics

The Introduction to Water Magic

From the first year texbook for water mages
These mages of course have the gift of controling water! Water is a necessary part of everyday life for all species, but it is not easy to control. It can be in the form of a tidal wave or just particles in the air around us. It takes that special affinity to control it.   Water mages of course cannot create water, though it may appear so. While you may have seen other water mages around you seemingly create water from nowhere, maybe to fill a glass or to prank another unsuspecting mage, they are actually pulling water from another source. In some places there is pleantiful amounts in the air or stored in plants, it can be pulled from puddles or lakes as well. In places like Aridos however there is very little in the air and usually is taken from the sea. Many that expect to use water in combat will carry an extra waterskin just in case there is no source to draw from.   If you the reader of this book are a young water mage, take a moment to meditate. Allow yourself to feel the air around you and let your magic help guide you. Maybe you can't feel the water in the air yet but you may feel water in a nearby waterskin or in a basin for dish washing. With some work you'll be able to feel every particle of water around you! Excerises like this will make it easier to draw on the water for your magic, if you are a young water mage whomever your teacher is will guide you through many exercies like this to grow this ability.   Now you may be wondering why can only water mages do this? Well our magic cores are all geared to specific magics. While all mages can do non-element related magic, elemental magic seems to be a special exception. A water mage's magic core is tailored specifically to call upon water, and no one without this affinity can do this.   Now you may be eager young mage to perform your first grand spell, but hold on! With water magic you will find patience to be your friend. In this book you will learn to grow your core from a small puddle to a raging torrent! While your teacher guides you through the daily exercises in this book you will also have to train your mind. You will find chapters on important water mages in history and what they did to shape history, and many will share tips from these mages on learning water magic! Through these stories you will not only learn but perhaps feel encouraged through these mages own stories of their early learning. For you enterprising mages there is also a chapter at the end of this book on different proffesions related to water mages, from water collectors in Aridos to the combat water mages in the king's army!   Now go forth and learn young mage, may this book guide you well.
The texbook this snippet is from is a common book for all starting water mages. I mean every water mage old and young will groan remebering reading this book a dozen times during their first year. It is informational however for anyone unfamiliar with water mages and builds a solid foundation.   This obviously is not the entire introduction chapter, as all students will bemoan the actual introduction is over ten pages long. I just simply provided some of the most necessary parts!
