Thanariel is a mysterious figure, distrusted even among his divine peers, whose very existence is shrouded in superstition. It is said that his appearance is unique to the individual perceiving him, but he is most often described as a hooded man with dark skin and kind eyes, draped in a voluminous black cloak. As the eldest son of Ishara, The Crone, he carries the burdensome title of being her Exarch, which makes him responsible for collecting the souls of his mother’s most loyal followers upon their passing. This position has earned him the moniker of “Gatherer.”
In spite of his seemingly ominous role, Thanariel is not a malevolent entity. On the contrary, many who encounter him speak of his compassion for mortals, recounting him as being pleasantly cordial. However, his presence is often mistaken for that of the Grim Reaper, his brother with whom he shares a superficial resemblance. Knowledge of the two’s origins have been lost to time, but many theologians have their theories. One such theory is that they were once archangels who, perhaps unwillingly, relinquished their wings to live in the mortal realm.
