Lizardfolk

Hardy and Diverse

The Lizardfolk of the post-Return world are among the most diverse of the reborn races. Found worldwide in a multitude of different environments and locations, Lizardfolk tend to form tight-knit cultures, often with a strong element of familial ties. Being perhaps the most radically divergent from humans of the reborn races, Lizardfolk have had their cultures heavily shaped by the massive changes in physiology they experienced.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Lizardfolk stand between six to eight feet tall at adulthood; their heads and facial structure resemble that of snakes, while their bodies maintain a generally humanoid form. Their digitigrade legs are particularly strong, and they are capable of short bursts of impressive speed. Their three-toed feet have strong claws that dig into the ground when running, and their five fingered hands also possess similar although smaller, claws. Their tails are thick, flexible and strong, but not very dexterous.

Genetics and Reproduction

Lizardfolk are semi-ovoviviparous; the egg remains within the mother, with a soft, non-calcified shell, for the entire six-month gestation period up until 3-6 days before hatching.

Growth Rate & Stages

Lizardfolk are almost helpless when first hatched, but grow into childhood quickly, typically able to walk and babble at the age of three months. However, their childhood is long, and both sexes don't hit puberty until around the age of nineteen.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Lizardfolk have acute eyesight and a keen sense of smell (like snakes, they are capable of "tasting" the air with their tongues), but their hearing is slightly below-average.

Civilization and Culture

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Lizardfolk are extremely diverse, and a nomadic, continental culture such as the Sayasak is extremely different from, say, a sedentary lizardfolk culture of the savanna. However, most lizardfolk cultures have a common thread of tight-knit groups; In addition, lizardfolk from disparate cultures find it much easier to relate with one another than with other races.
