Soul Essence

Soul Essence is the force of life contained within all living things. Soul Essence originated in the titan Genesis, though as time has passed it has become more dispersed throughout the planes as new souls are born from the essence contained within Genesis, and those souls grow, develop, and change on their own.. During an individual's life, the Soul Essence inside them is shaped by their experiences. When an individual dies, the changes their Soul Essence has gone through draws their soul to the most appropriate afterlife, typically that of whichever god them worship. An echo of that individuals life and personality is recorded, while the raw energy of their Soul Essence is granted to whichever deity or plane is most fitting for it.

 Soul Essence is a precious commodity, especially to creatures of the Outer Planes who are made of Pure Soul Essence. The souls of particularly famous or powerful individuals as especially valuable, as they contain far more Soul Essence than most. Most planar entities are content with the flow of Soul Essence generated by mortals naturally becoming inclined to the ideologies associated with their planes, however evil creatures, such as Demons and Devils, are known to actively seek out and take mortal souls, whether by making bargains in exchange for souls or taking by force through sacrifices. Much of the conflict between various Outer Plane factions are motivated by the need for Soul Essence.
