Wyrmwatch
Wyrmwatch
Location: Southern Highlands, Thunder Province
Status: Active Settlement — Strategic Military Outpost
Overview:
Wyrmwatch is a fortified frontier town carved into the frostbitten cliffs overlooking the southern valleys. Originally founded as a simple scouting post, it has evolved into one of Thunder Province’s critical early warning hubs against draconic threats, marauders, and southern incursions.
Its people live hard, fight harder, and pride themselves on being the first to stand — and sometimes fall — when danger approaches.
Founding and Growth:
- Established in 2679 during Warlord Kazimir "The Shatterbrand" Vo's reign.
- Built following the "Fang Winter," when a flight of starving dragons razed several southern mining camps.
- Named Wyrmwatch in honor of its original mission: to spot and repel aerial threats before they reached Frosthold or vital rail lines.
- Reinforced during the Era of Chain and Flame with steam-propelled ballistae and early dragonfire-resistant fortifications.
Modern Wyrmwatch:
- Serves as a key garrison town and recruitment center for Thunderbolt War College graduates.
- Houses several elite regiments, known collectively as the Ashclad Watch, trained to fight in extreme cold with minimal supplies.
- Known for its harsh initiation rites: newcomers must survive an unaided night atop the exposed Wyrmspire Bluff.
- Strong ties to both the Frostfire Arcana and the military council of Frosthold, though it operates with semi-autonomy.
Culture and Way of Life:
- Wyrmwatchers are blunt, fiercely independent, and suspicious of outsiders — even those from within Thunder Province.
- Locals have a tradition of carving their family names into the bones of fallen dragons displayed around the town's perimeter.
- They celebrate Survivor’s Vigil every year, honoring those lost to beasts, storms, and worse.
Strategic Importance:
- Wyrmwatch acts as the southern shield of Thunder Province.
- Rumors persist of strange dragon activity in the valleys beyond, making the settlement’s existence more crucial than ever.
- Some say Wyrmwatch sees threats before the capital even hears whispers.
