Half-Elf

Half-elves at the Born New Military Academy fall into two major lineages:

  • First-Generation Half-Elves: Children born directly from human-elf couplings.
  • Dragonmarked Lineage Half-Elves: The children of two half-elves, occasionally passing down stable magical traits or “dragonmarks” as recessive but heritable traits.

Both groups are eligible to attend the Academy, but their treatment, prestige, and expectations vary significantly.

First-Generation Half-Elves: The Bastards of Legacy

Origins:
Elves, due to their low fertility and sacred views on bloodlines, rarely reproduce. However, rogue members of ancient elven families—motivated by desperation or forbidden ambition—sometimes secretly seek out human partners. This practice is taboo and rarely acknowledged publicly. The purpose is clear: to increase the odds of a dragonmarked birth.

Dragonmark Probability:
The chance of a first-gen half-elf bearing a dragonmark is 1 in 100, significantly lower than among full-blooded elves but far higher than among humans, who are almost never born with one naturally.

Status and Stigma:

  • These children are considered bastards by the elven houses.
  • They are rarely welcomed into their ancestral line unless they show early signs of power or manifest a dragonmark.
  • If admitted to Born New Military Academy , they often begin in lower ranks or as scholarship cases, monitored closely for either miraculous development or failure.
  • Secretly, many are groomed as pawns, disposable yet potentially powerful.

Dragonmarked Lineage Half-Elves: Stabilized Legacies

Origins:
When two half-elves—particularly those with some shared elven ancestry—produce children, the likelihood of magical stability increases. While still rare, these lineages sometimes manifest recurring magical traits or a stable dragonmark over generations.

Status:

  • These individuals are treated with greater respect at Born New Military Academy .
  • Their bloodlines are often monitored, tracked, or even sanctioned breeding lines.
  • Some are assigned mentors or political patrons, as their families—though often minor—are seen as valuable magical assets.

Academy Roles:

  • Many of them are fast-tracked into dragon-bonding programs or advanced magical studies.
  • They are often placed in elite units or serve in symbolic roles meant to inspire loyalty to the Academy’s ideals.

Philosophical Divide at the Academy

The Academy itself is divided:

  • The Purists see half-elves as unpredictable and believe only full-blooded bloodlines should lead the world's defense.
  • The Integrationists believe half-elves, and especially dragonmarked ones, are the next step in the families' evolution and should be accepted into the bloodlines.

Some professors and military officials are even rumored to be secret members of elven bloodlines.
