Dhampir
Dhampirs are born of the union between the living and the undead, inheriting traits of both worlds. While dhampirs can feed on blood, it is not the blood itself they crave, but the life-force energy — the magical essence — contained within it that sustains their unnatural existance. Though dhampirs can drain energy from magical items, this method is highly costly and often unsustainable, leading them to prefer blood as a cheaper, more reliable resource.
Dhampirs are not inherently evil; their cravings are simply a necessity of their existence. Many dhampirs are solitary, preferring to remain away from others so as not to put them at risk. However, some find ways to control their hunger or channel it into useful purposes, such as monster hunting or protecting the living from undead threats. Dhampirs are not universally feared or rejected, but they must constantly navigate their condition, choosing whether to embrace their undead nature or fight against it.
Role in Society:
- Loam Province:
In Loam Province, dhampirs are viewed with respect rather than fear. The province is home to many undead creatures, and dhampirs are seen as a natural part of the balance. Rather than being hunted or persecuted, dhampirs are viewed as a "state of undeath" — a form of existence that has been accepted and integrated into the fabric of Loam's society. The Ebon Crypt Academy, which trains necromancers and healers, recognizes the unique role dhampirs play in combating undead threats, and many dhampirs serve as guardians or bounty hunters specializing in the undead. They are not regarded as evil, but rather as protectors, and their vampiric heritage is treated with understanding, even respect. - Silver Province:
In Silver Province, dhampirs are far more secretive and cautious. Though their abilities are valued by those who seek to wield their power, dhampirs are seen with suspicion, particularly in the more elite circles. Dhampirs often hide their heritage to avoid being hunted by those who would see them as dangerous. Dhampirs in Silver Province often conceal their vampiric traits and live in the shadows, fearing the hunters and those who might exploit their condition. The hunt for dhampirs in Silver is not as common as it might be elsewhere, but the threat is ever-present, and the fear of exposure leads many to lead isolated lives.
