Brasscliff
Location: Western Ridge, Thunder Province
Status: Active Settlement — Industrial and Mining Hub
Overview:
Brasscliff is Thunder Province’s beating industrial heart, perched precariously atop veins of volatile minerals and rare frozen reagents. Known for its choking steam, clanging forges, and endless labor shifts, it fuels both Frosthold’s war machine and the provincial steamcore network with raw materials and engineered goods.
If Frosthold is the brain of Thunder Province, Brasscliff is the blood and muscle.
Founding and Growth:
- Founded in 2623 under the early campaigns of Warlord Hilda “The Stormhorn” Vex to unite the tundra clans through shared industry.
- Originally a small cliffside mining camp called Karr’s Claim, it expanded explosively during the Era of Chain and Flame with the introduction of steam-powered drills and mobile foundries.
- Renamed Brasscliff after a massive mineral seam of golden-bronze ore (nicknamed “brassbone”) was unearthed in 2681.
Modern Brasscliff:
- Supplies over 60% of Thunder’s refined metals, alchemical catalysts, and heavy machinery parts.
- Home to the Furnace Choirs — shifts of laborers who chant rhythmic work songs to coordinate massive smelting operations.
- Houses one of the oldest still-operating evocation-forges, where fire and ice magics temper tools designed for extreme survival and war.
- Notoriously dangerous working conditions; minor collapses, steam bursts, and reagent fires are part of daily life.
Culture and Way of Life:
- Brasscliffers are loud, stubborn, and take pride in surviving "the cliff’s bite" — the freezing, windy drop-offs surrounding the settlement.
- Every citizen is expected to know basic smithing, firefighting, and first aid by adulthood.
- Popular sayings like “If your boots ain’t burning, you ain’t working” reflect the town's brutal work ethic.
- The Brass Solstice, held during the darkest days of the year, sees workers forge symbolic “life-embers” — personal talismans meant to bring luck until the next festival.
Strategic Importance:
- Critical supplier of weapons, armor, steamcore components, and fortified construction materials.
- Stronghold of provincial loyalty; multiple attempts to unionize or rebel have been crushed swiftly — often by the townsfolk themselves.
- Without Brasscliff, Thunder’s cities would grind to a frozen, metal-starved halt within months.
