Beast Hunter Myth in The Realms | World Anvil

Beast Hunter

There is a beast the prowls the forest of [the Realm]. It seeks the unaware and the foolish, taking them in the dead of night, never to be seen again. It knows not rest nor fear, so all the foolish can do is run and pray. Run through the trees, through the mountains, down the roads, into the towns. Pray that the moon is full, little traveler, pray that the stars are kind, pray and wish and hope it grows bored, unwary one. While it may not rest, it does grow bored. It will seek easier, more entertaining prey. So run, and pray it grows bored.

The Beast Hunter is a old tale, considered to be older then the The Convergence or even the Age of Unification. It speaks of a creature that stalks the Catkin Realm during the night and steals the unwary travelers away, never to be seen again.   Before the age of the tale became known, it was theorized that perhaps it was talking about a creature from one of the other Realms. Careful questioning and observation, however, revealed that not only was the tale older then any registered contact with other Realms, but there may be a grain of truth to it. As the Realms become more and more well mapped, strange sights have been noticed in the Realm.   In some of the forests, strange markings found on trees matched markings found in the mountains. In the same area, solitary explorers and mappers vanish, causing a decree that forbids moving through the wilds alone to be passed. As more and more these strange coincidences are brought to light, the idea that perhaps not all is known about the Realms grows ever stronger. And with it, the question of whether or not the tale is true becomes asked more and more.
