Candle of the Last Vigil

Candle of the Last Vigil

Wondrous Item

Very Rare Requires Attunement

A sacred tool of the Silent Covenant, this unassuming candle has guided hunters for hundreds of years. When lit, it creates a 15-foot radius of bright light and an additional 10 feet of dim light for 1 hour. Choose 2 of the following options when lighting the candle:
  • Banish the Unholy. Undead, Fiends, or Aberrations cannot willingly enter the bright light unless they succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, they must remain outside the radius until the candle is extinguished.
  • Watchful Flame. While within the light, you gain advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks and cannot be surprised.
  • Safe Passage. If travelling, the holder gains a relative sense of direction toward their stated destination, feeling a pull in the correct direction even in unnatural places.
  • Unfinished Business. Lighting the candle next to a corpse that was slain causes the flame to release a trail of smoke that drifts towards the killer’s location (only if on the same plane of existence).
  • Burning Vow. Once lit, the candle marks a visible creature that is within the bright light’s radius. Until the candle is extinguished, the marked creature cannot become invisible.
  • Blood Tithe. If the owner places a single drop of their blood into the flame, the candle’s bright light extends to a 30-foot radius for the duration.
Whenever the candle is extinguished, roll 1d20 and subtract that many minutes from the candles remaining duration. The candle becomes extinguished if it is moved more than 20ft per round. The candle regains its 1-hour duration every dawn.
