Meysiner

Where ruins and wars never stopped its people from making a way

"To fall over and give in would be to put to waste our legacy, our power and our future."

Sitting just north of Blackout Bay, Meysiner returns to the world stage with a population more determined than ever to lead their country to success. After nearly a decade of civil war, barely scraping along the outlines of the Pariton accords, most of Merysiner's labour force now focuses on manufacturing more than ever.

With the fall of Meysiner's previously booming architecture and processing industry, it moves to utilize its abundant raw materials and hardy people who have survived through the claws of civil war. Meysiner pumps out basic products with terrifying efficiency and determination, as if all of the heat previously fueling the civil war has been redirected to pushing itself up towards the sky.

Demographics

Nearly 70% of Meysigns work in manufacturing. Its main industries are clothing, assembly and simple mechanics. The rest work in farming, by the west of the country, and some are in its growing mining industry. Much like the rest of human society, Meysiner's demographic is heavily mixed, including those who came from the early Ferochi conquests, people native to the land and also descendants of slaves brought in from north Qui. While most of its people appear human, the FACDP reports that nearly 30% of its population is mixed, mostly of Werlopos and Probatis. Most Meysigns are, by global standards, in the working class.

Government

Ever since the Meysign civil war, the previous Oligarchy has given way to an unstable democracy. The taxation is lax, and public services are scarce. However, healthcare and safety are major focuses of the current government, and so are human rights regulations, especially so in the workplace.

Defences

While most siege towers have been raided, the weaponry and underground chambers have remained intact. Away from the water, many houses have both a raised sniper's window or trapdoors leading to hidden rooms. Most major cities are winding, with no clear, open areas and many ruins of previous buildings. Out in urban areas, buildings are still closely packed together, and with the extra of walls and small outposts, due to their vulnerability during the civil war.

Industry & Trade

Meysiner is known for its clothing production, mechanics and assembly. Most of its mining has gone to manufacturing, although it does not possess the technology to refine most raw materials, only to export or to smelt very basically. Energy comes from mainly coal, but the NC has been pushing for cleaner alternatives. Its imports include electronic goods, medicine, refined goods, and services from other countries, such as engineers and doctors.

Infrastructure

Since the civil war, much of Meysiner's more grandiose structures have been destroyed. Along the rivers, houses are mainly built of concrete that has been scavenged from siege towers and with high bases that hang above land. Further inland, buildings are much lower to the ground, made of roughly cut granite and stone. Very little wood is used. There are narrow, dirt roads with crossing alleyways that reach in many directions. The layout of most residential areas are chaotic, while the factories are built more orderly and rectangular.

Assets

Meysiner is settled near a bay with rivers that go rather deep within. Due to its slightly lower altitude, it has access to many heavy minerals. Despite the water access, Meysiner has never had a fishing industry, nor sailing outside of the Lantern River because of Blackout Bay's infamous "curse". There are many specialty shops in Meysiner, mostly opened by travelling FACDP members in disguise. Near the bay, many minerals contain resonance energy, where operations to utilize these minerals are disguised as mining.

History

Pre-Historical era

During the previous /78 cycle, the area of what would become Meysiner was mostly spared from The End.

Few records exist of the pre-1200 era, although tracks and worn-down shelves in caves and temporary shelters suggest it may have been a major travel route for early explorers, likely from the middle or eastern Atahrii. Some simple graves hint at possible semi-permanent settlements near the Lantern River.

Based on writing and carvings found in this era, Meysiner had a great boom during the mid 1200s up til the 1500s, and was a part of an empire that reached east and southward, possibly all the way down to Cinade. It is unknown what caused this empire to collapse, although most theories say that a drought occurred, which then led to civil unrest and eventually the empire's breakdown.

The Age of Conquest

During this time, the king of Ferochi had commissioned a group of wandering travellers from Salyt to help them compete with the growing Estoka empire. On foot, these travellers reached Meysiner, where they settled a pact with the locals to join forces, in exchange for riches and material. During the late 1600s, a war for Ferochi's throne broke out, which separated its territory into factions that fought for dominance, and some, independence. Southern Meysiner had supported Princess Cessilin the second, representing the faction of El, while northern Meysiner had hoped for independence. When an opposing faction from the north east won out, the two halves were forced to merge and become a singular territory.

For the next century, Meysiner would become a source of manual labour and a strategic area for the rising tensions with Estoka. Eventually, during the 1800s, Ferochi treaded upon the teromond islands, a strip of land claimed by Estoka. This sparked yet another battle, and with Meysiner's capital at the time, Zheligan, sieged. For the next decade, Meysiner was split down the middle, furthering the original boundaries between the north and south of the country.

Age of the Hurns

Two families, gifted in strategies of war and negotiation would later manage to change Meysiner into a neutral ground that supported neither party. During 1830, the two families married into one another, forming the Hungs family that would rule Meysiner for the decades to come. Alliances formed between Meysiner and neighouring countries, and Meysiner became a rather important power in the middle west. Major among these are the artistic boom of Londaig, further refinement of printing and fabric dyeing, and architecture that the ancient world would marvel at. However, as external threats simmered down, the family became more and more lax and corrupt. When in the late 1990s, the current ruler was assassinated, it sparked a civil war between the north and south that would rage on for nearly two decades.

Architecture

The whole of Meysiner is built with granite, cut into heavy cubes and stacked together to form pillars. Walls are made with a combination of straws and with overhangs made of stone and occasionally wood. Meysign architecture is often pale, and having more lightly-coloured homes is a sign of wealth. Structures that had survived the civil war are rounded, with decorative fabric draped over the many decks and outcrops signalling a family's wealth. Fabric is traditionally used as decoration, as they had symbolized an area of safety during the war between Estoka and Ferochi. Small, polished granite statues depicting structures are also used as traditional decoration.

Geography

Meysiner is a low-altitude country with fresh water access. Most of its west end is farmable land, while the east has many mineral deposits and veins of gold. However, the only point of sailing is at the very tip of the west, where it is the furthest away from the heart of Blackout Bay. Due to most of Meysiner being low meadows and lightly rolling hills, there are not many woods. The Lantern river runs down from a mountain in northern Atahrii down to the southeast.
