Festival of Bachda

The festival of Bachda is a courtship tradition celebrated every year in the early spring. It is a multi-day festival in which unmarried men and women compete in games and competitions. If a spectator is impressed by someone's performance in a competition, they give them a wreath of flowers, indicating their interest in marriage. A wreath is not considered a binding proposal.

Participants

Unmarried men and women from several villages will gather at a central location for games, competitions, and dancing. Others may watch even if they are already married or too young to particpate.

Observance

The festival is observed in early spring, as soon as the first flowers start blooming.
