The Darrow Shelf

A remnant of a long forgotten nations boarder protection these towering walls of ancient stone now serve as the only defensive line against the harrowing creatures that still lurk within the Bitter North. Standing atop a sheer cliff face nearly two miles high  that boarders the western marshes and tundra's of Lorian while butting up against the jagged peaks of the Sundercleft mountain range the Darrow Shelf makes for a convenient if foreboding natural boarder protecting the remaining civilizations of Lorian from the horrid beasts left forgotten in all but rumor and hushed story.  A single path of collapsed cliff face and worn stone work winds upwards into the frigid domain of the Bitter North leading to Castle Jarlgarn and the Icebound Gate, the one entrance to the Bitter North that wasn't by churning, dangerous sea. Though little is known of Castle Jarlgarn and those who man it by the majority of the world it is said that a curse of death plagues the gates themselves and those that are unlucky enough to be conscripted into service will find their soul forever bound to the gates, cursed to guard the Southern reaches in life and undeath.
