Lower Squallholm

Wardens of The Churning Squall

Beneath the blackened, churning waves of the Sea of Fate lies the last vestige of the Triton people and the true heart of Squallholm itself. While to most not native to the ocean 'Squallholm' is considered to be the quaint if some what stringent town on the Isle above that is merely the barest glimpse of the truth. Like the curved fin of a shark cresting the water to properly know the truth breath of Squallholm one must find the nerve to first look beneath the waterline. Once little more than an embassy Squallholm has since become the last holdout of a culture that previously spanned the vast depths of the Sea of Fate. Lead by Lady Mirin Bloodtide, the eldest living heir to the Ascended of the same title, the Triton people are a proud and militeristic society. Though perhaps softened in the several hundred years since the elimination of their empires thanks to the more serene outlooks of the Tortle people who live in the shallows of Lorian the Squallholm has yet to diminish in its war like practices. This way of life has proven a great boon in this most dire of ages as the warriors of Squallholm have slowly, but surely reclaimed a swath of the ocean floor in between the Isle of Beacon Point to the the City of Teir'Nalon along the eastern banks of Lorian bringing oppertunity for fishing and even short range water travel to the realm after centuries without. These bounties do not come from Squallholm for free however, House Bloodtide having since claimed this stretch of ocean in the name of a new Triton empire and closely policing those who would trespass in their waters.   As one might expect given their history Squallholm is not known for its diplomacy. However in these dire times the Triton have been forced to look for aid in ways they would have once thought unthinkable. Not only have the Sea Elves and the Tortle been embraced and accepted as citizens of Squallholm itself allowing for non-Tritons to settle within a Triton city for the first time in living memory, but House Bloodtide has also forged a tenuous alliance with House Pinwin of Teir'Nalon. Offering knowledge of the tides and the depths in exchange for the curious items and schematics the land born Scrap Mages come up with. While this is far from a true bond or allegiance it is but another signifier that the tides of change are churning for the Triton people, forcing adaptation or extinction.

Map Key

1. Cloister Ward

Though the city of Squallholm has been open to outside races for over a hundred years now this does not mean the Triton are so ready to expose every inch of their last bastion. The Cloister Ward is perhaps the most populated area of the city. However that is does not mean all are welcome. In fact it is said that the Cloister Ward is meant exclusively for the native Triton peoples and specifically disallows outsiders.

2. Under Bark

Much like the Kelp Grove of Teir'Nalon the Under Bark is a modern magical marvel allowing for the growth of usually land bound plant life such as vegetables, fruits, and even some trees. Though not in any great quantities the Under Bark does allow for the nobility of Squallholm to enjoy some of the more exotic tastes of the land without needing to venture from the comfort of their homes.

3. Bloodwake Castle

Bloodwake castle, named in remembrance of the countless Trioton lives lost in the war against the Leviathan menace, the caste is home to the noble house of Bloodtide and serves as the soul seat of power in all of the new triton empire.

4. The Sea Grove

Where the Under Bark serves as a source of land based delicacies the Sea Grove cultivates the fines of deep sea plant life, many of which only found in Squallholm since the end of the previous age.

5. Undertoe Tavern

Seated on the edges of the Sea Elf and Tortle wards respectively the Undertoe Tavern serves not only as a gathering spot for non-triton locals, but it is also the primary exit of the Weir Drift, the undersea highway that connects upper and lower Squallholm.

6. Three Shell Market

A city lives and dies by its trade and economy and Squallholm is no different. Three Shell is the size of a small city ward and holds within it all manner of deep sea treasures and mysteries alike. Though it is exceedingly rare of any land born creatures to find a way to explore the streets of Squallholm themselves those who have returned with tales of all manner of glittering treasure being traded as though it were common or and wheat.
