Saga of the Coin, the Sword and the Medallion, The

The Saga of the Coin, the Sword, and the Medallion is a series of 24 novellas (each novella a complete narrative in itself, mostly action stories) ordered into 3 volumes, with the stories in each volume forming a larger narrative and all 3 volumes together forming an even larger narrative.

In-universe, they're the journals of the Young Protector, recounting the tales of how he came into the world of the Realm and his adventures as a Protector of the Realm fighting Scowrers and their War Witch, giants, dragons, and above all the Magician. Written in a mysterious language (English) utterly unlike the Mother Tongue, the physical notebooks languished for centuries in the Royal Antiquarium before an enterprising bunny scholar of linguistics undertook the challenge of properly translating them with the permission and even assistance of the Royal Family.

The translator died shortly after his work was done, but his work was not in vain, as the Saga was a smash hit upon its publication. Originally published in 3 separate volumes, the first combined and comprehensive edition of the Saga was published in YR 1987.
