MechWarrior

Commensurate with the rise in prominence of the Mechanized Weapons Platform was the rise of those who piloted them. Piloting BattleMechs is akin to just about every other skill in the galaxy: easy to do, hard to be good at. Anyone with even basic piloting knowledge will find the cockpit of a Mech familiar enough to get the machine moving and functional, but skilled BattleMech pilots, or MechWarriors as they have been dubbed, are capable of making the machines look almost graceful.   MechWarriors are set apart from other pilots by their ability to connect with their mech on a neurological level. PsiTech common during the Pretech era but utterly magical by today's standards creates a deep neural link between the pilot and the mech. While physical control of the mech using onboard controls is still required, the neural link allows the mech's VI systems to processes incoming requests from the physical controls at the speed of thought limiting response times to milliseconds on the slow end. The strength and synchronicity of the neural link depends largely, it is believed, on genetics and the makeup of the neural pathways in the pilot's brain. A link of 90% or higher is referred to as a True Link, and pilots with these links are referred to as Pure MechWarriors.   A battlemech under the control of a Pure MechWarrior is capable of truly miraculous levels of battlefield dominance and destruction. Reports exist of these pilots even leaving their mechs, and the link persisting afterwords for some time allowing them an almost psychic link that grants them control of their mech even when they aren't in the cockpit.
