Station Charlie-1
Station Charlie-1, commonly referred to as "The Eye", is a communications and surveillance installation operated by MIDAS located in New York City. Charlie-1 operates out of Unity Tower, a tower and memorial built on the site of the Empire State Building to commemorate those lost in the October Bombings in 2004. The purpose of the site is to act as a central communications hub for all MIDAS agents and affiliated heroes, in the hopes of increasing cooperation and effectiveness in the field.
The site has long had a history of controversy, with many criticizing the decision to operate out of a building with ties to some of the worst events in New York City's history. Others take issue with the site's nickname of "The Eye", seeing it as MIDAS trying to make light of an otherwise egregious violation of Americans' right to personal privacy. MIDAS has denied the accusations and attempted to reassure the public that Charlie-1 is not used to gather data en masse or to violate people's privacy, though many continue to believe the site is intended for more nefarious purposes than MIDAS or the US Government is willing to admit.
