History

Early Life

John Jefferson Jr. was born to John Sr. and Susan Jefferson in Little Rock, Arkansas on June 11th, 1974. Life in the average middle-class family treated John well, and he never found himself interested in more. Throughout much of his youth and into early adulthood, 'average' seemed to suit John Jr. just fine. He finished high school with decent scores, and went on to study as a mechanic at a trade school so he could help out his father at the family's used car shop. While working to become a mechanic, John also took a job at a museum as a tour guide. While working at the museum, John took a liking to the medieval history displays and often spent his off hours dreaming of being a knight, charging into battle atop his horse. He even began taking horseback riding lessons, in an attempt to make his dream even a partial reality.

The Year 2000

As the dawn of a new century loomed over the horizon, John looked towards the future with fear and uncertainty. Like many others in the late 1990s, John had become wrapped up in the panic response to the "Year 2000 Problem", a problem with at-the-time modern computers that threatened to disrupt global telecommunications and network infrastructures if not resolved. Though most of the software involved was either already fixed or having its fix rolled out, by the summer of 1999 John was beginning to panic. The fervor that spread through the average citizen had left John facing his own mortality and questioning whether history would even remember people like him after society collapses. Desperate to live on in the minds of others, John travelled from Little Rock to London, England, with the goal of breaking into The British Museum.   On the evening of November 18th, 1999, John entered the building through a maintenance exit and began searching for a relic of interest to steal. While wandering the halls of the medieval exhibits, he discovered a strange sword that appeared to be glowing. Initially, he assumed the glow was due to the moonlight from an adjacent window, though after realizing the room he was in had no direct view of any windows, he realized the blade seemed to be producing its own light. Fascinated by the weapon, he pulled it from its display case, triggering the building's alarms in the process. Before he had a chance to figure out an escape route, he was surrounded by police and arrested. He would spend the turn of the century imprisoned, expecting the world around him to collapse into chaos any second. When he was released from prison on January 18th, 2000, he was surprised to find the world was unchanged by the effects of Y2K.
