Shredded Daresh Tree

In the far reaches of the Sunaran desert are oasis leftover from the last ice age. The Oasis have a wide variety of life available in them, sourcing from the crystal clear pools which form the basis for all the life found. The size of the pond determines the size of the oasis.   Of all the life found in these oasis is the Daresh Tree. This unique tree grows quickly and is useless for any form of building. The people of the desert, however discovered that it's a source of a large amount of protein, drawn from the rich soil found under the sands of the deserts the tree's roots are deep, so deep that no one is known to have found the ends of them. Magical exploration of the plants indicate that the roots may stretch through the sands several hundred feet deep while also reaching wide to the pools which support the oasis.   The result of this oddly resourceful tree is that it can be cut down to the ground and the roots will simply begin to grow a new tree, allowing a source of food which will replensih itself every few months.   The tree's fiber is not difficult to prepare, but it does require the specific knowledge. It is stewed with spices in the water of its oasis for a quarter of an hour and the result is a texture similar to a pulled meat. It takes spice well, the flavor permeating through the plant fibers. Strangely, if it is stewed in any water but that of the oasis, it will toughen to the point of being indigestible. It has also proven impossible to be transported beyond the desert and transplants of the trees have proven impossible. Thus, few outside of the desert have ever tasted this odd cuisine and is viewed as a rite of passage for explorers of the region..
