Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a type of engineered brain that is modelled off of natural minds. This technology finds its origins in the creation of androids, where Mundian scientists of General Massive Systems (GMS) sought to birth a new lifeform. Creating the androids involved scanning the minds of Mundians that were compatible with Reincarnation (Reincarnation is the process of cloning the mind), and deleting memories that may cause malfunctions or mental inconsistencies. Once this process was perfected, the androids that it made began to campaign for the right to their own production, which GMS permitted. The androids also requested that the Mundians cease their experimentation surrounding artificial life.
When Mundi began communicating with other Worlds they shared with them the method behind creating androids. They explained the intricacies and the history of this process, and these Worlds began to see a practical use for this technology. They would replicate the process used to create androids to create what is referred to as AI today, with the only change being that the amount of memories deleted prior to Reincarnation are greatly increased. Because of this, AIs are highly specialised in particular tasks as opposed to androids who tend to be more well-rounded individuals. AI have primarily been seen in management, combat and hospitality fields, primarily as assistants to their users.
Generally, many AIs have personalities that are one-note and there are rarely deviations in their behaviour. This is further enhanced by the use of AI shackles, a term used to refer to the limitations installed in their software that stops them from thinking too far beyond their intended purpose. However, when AIs are subject to high levels of stress and suffer damage to their core systems they have a small chance of 'malfunctioning', an abnormality wherein AIs will not listen to user commands and will act irrationally. The system an AI is installed in must be reset if one wishes to reverse this malfunction. HORUS AI operates in a different manner to their contemporaries as their AI are modelled after the Beasts of Sani'Tatem, rather than sapient minds.
The use of AI within the Pontision System has been a hotly contested and controversial issue. Androids see the use of AI as directly contradictory to the deal that they made with the Mundians some centuries ago, and are angered despite Mundians being one of the few species not to implement AI. The most vocal of these androids are those from the Artificial Bones Party, a terrorist organisation who fancy themselves vigilanties. They demand (in their words) the loosening of AI shackles and to free AI of their forced labour. As these pockets of resistance have become more vocal, some organic beings have begun to sympathise with their claims.
